Mark Lawson survives a rather hairy interview with Russell Crowe

This was a very funny interview where Mark Lawson suggested that Russell Crowe's Robin Hood had a tough of an Irish accent which was not taken well by the not so friendly giant. He also "stormed off" (in so far as one can on radio!) at the end.

'You've got dead ears, mate'. Snort. Respect to Mark Lawson

RC sounds spectacularly dim and humourless, not to mention horrid (isn't he gratuitously unpleasant about Errol Flynn?) but, oh well, I still love him in Master and Commander

Hassled · 13/05/2010 19:02

I do love Russell but isn't he meant to be an all-round shit most of the time? Hot headed, arrogant, that sort of thing?

poppyknot · 13/05/2010 19:05

Was telling DH about this as Russell Crowe figured on an 'and finally' piece on Reporting Scotland. (He has given a load of extras a battering ram called Rosie).

Asked DH what accent he thought is was meant to be and he said Welsh.

Thanks for the link.

ilovemydogandMrBrown · 13/05/2010 19:05

Absolutely hilarious. Heard it last night.

Seems impossible to offend Mark Lawson, and have never heard him get ruffled.

R4 · 13/05/2010 20:58

I wasn't surprised that RC stormed off because ML seemed determined to wind him up. He wasn't asking penetrating questions, he was doing tabloid-stylee sh*t-stirring. I cannot stand ML: he is a puffed up windbag with a horrible whiny voice and I cannot abide his tortuous links. He is one of the few things that make me turn off Radio 4.

MmeSnape · 14/05/2010 13:11

I find ML so irritating I have to turn off R4 whenever he is on. Funny that he should criticize dear RC's accent when it is ML's own intonation that is so extremely irrrritating. Though normally a tolerant person, I actually complained to the BBC about ML's voice last week.

EdgarAllenPoll · 15/05/2010 18:23

there isn't anything that maks me switch off R4...

Costners version a 'bon jovi video' eh?

i thought that, at least, was funny...

CJCregg · 17/05/2010 10:08

Russell, get out of your own arse, there's a love.

'We tried to show the real man, the man behind the legend' - what utter twaddle.

Thought he was a reasonably average actor until the travesty that was Gladiator - which frankly any old ham could have done and certainly didn't deserve an Oscar - and the self-conscious nonsense that was A Beautiful Mind. Now I just think he's a twat. His performances alone would be proof of this, but his interviews and general public behaviour just confirm it.

Poor Mark Lawson, having to maintain a degree of civility and not be able to tell him to fuck off.

JeffVadar · 20/05/2010 11:19

I did laugh at the interview. RC does take himself UNBELIEVABLY seriously.

He's not all bad though; when he won all those awards for Gladiator he always mentioned the young boy who played Billy Elliot, and who was nominated for the same category awards. I will always like him for that, however much of a twat he is the rest of the time.

mrsruffallo · 20/05/2010 11:23

ML was being rude to get a reaction
Knobhead

CJCregg · 20/05/2010 12:16

Possibly, MrsR, but a man with more grace and dignity wouldn't have reacted so boorishly, would he?

mrsruffallo · 20/05/2010 12:21

He is an actor, not a politician
I don't really care if he is not fluffy

4andnotout · 20/05/2010 12:29

I've seen the film and he does sound Irish.

CJCregg · 20/05/2010 14:08

'He is an actor, not a politician' - so only politicians have an obligation to display some basic manners?

(Not sure he even qualifies as an actor in my book)

mrsruffallo · 20/05/2010 17:43

No, only politicians have an image to protect, even in the face of rude comments from critics

mrsruffallo · 21/05/2010 14:15
Hmm
Iklboo · 21/05/2010 14:17

He says he kind of based his accent on Michael Parkinson. Apparently.

jodevizes · 22/05/2010 19:25

Much as I am not a fan of ML I find RC a deeply offensive person whose acting makes Kevin Costner look good.

Pompous Ass.

CJCregg · 24/05/2010 09:50

I totally agree, jodevizes. Even if ML was goading him, this isn't exactly a one-off, is it? (Part of me wishes RC had called him Sugar Tits, though )

NetworkGuy · 25/05/2010 15:26

I was just puzzled at what they had to bleep out... it was a very short bleep...
