Jim's party in the Archers

Go ahead and mock me if you like but I really enjoyed tonight's little scene with Jim and Lillian and the roman hair conversation. Especially when she asked him what he thought of her hair then and told him that's what it would look like on thursday too.

I also loved Tony's conversation-killer about the duvet covers when Jim had gone round to explain what a peasant farmer would be wearing. Everyone's just going show up in old sheets aren't they!

and agree the bit where david said he couldnt stop jude seeing pip but could keep him off the farm was brill

It was good wasn't it! I was at the washing up bowl shouting support when David told Jude that he was banned from the farm. Maybe Pip's bang to the head might knock some sense into her.

I don't think anyone will be in appropriate roman costume apart from Jim and he'll have a tantrum.

I hadn't seen Jim as a Bert/Jo/Walter. I thought his anorakish obsessiveness was more in the line of (a now slightly mellowed, and also possibly no longer an outsider/newbie) Lynda.

Cockstruck- magic phrase. Yes the glory that was Rome may disappoint Jim

zisforzebra · 22/04/2010 20:42

Jim's party went off just about as well as expected then!

After Matt's attitude towards Lillian in this evening's visit I think she'll be starting that affair with Paul asap!

I thought Jazzer's comment to Jennifer was classic ;
"Aye, don't judge a book by the words..."

i missed tuesday and tonight. the party hasn't happened yet has it?

liked the way clarrie appeared on the phone last week, they must all need to be featured every so often to justify the wage.

Agree that Jim is completely and utterly tedious - and far too much of a stock character to be taken remotely seriously. I can never understand why Shula allows herself to get so rattled by him, given that he's a knob-end. Why not just laugh indulgently and ignore everything he says?

And someone on the R4 Archers website (yes, I am a sad person ) points out that Jim made two errors when he uttered 4 words of Latin recently....not so hot for a retired professor, hmmm?

"clarrie appeared on the phone last week"

Very strange. The Archers don't normally "do" phone eg the other day Brian was harrumphing because Adam wasn't about on the farm. Apparently he had gone in person all the way to the other side of the county to ask another farmer if Adam could borrow some of his labourers. I wondered why he couldn't have done it by a quick call but Archers never phone, they always have to schlep round to someone else's place to speak to them. Very strange.

GrimmaTheNome · 23/04/2010 21:03

Uh oh...watch out Lillian...

jodevizes · 25/04/2010 12:24

What a party! Jezza playing the village idiot and the fish sauce !!

I had to turn over when they were setting up the accident. It was so bloomin obvious what was going to happen I couldn't listen any more.

Tolalola · 26/04/2010 20:02

Ugh yes the party scenes were dire, weren't they?

Although anything that winds the unspeakably awful Shula up is a Good Thing, so I quite like Jim in general, just because she hates him so much.
