I'm not sure Helen is the best person to be giving advice

to Annette on parenting decisions, based on one baby-sitting session, bumping into Nicky's children twice and cooing over a baby.

The script writers are making her sound as if she's some childcare guru when she has no idea!

Nah. I don't think she's pretending to be a childcare guru, she is being very pushy though. She feels so strongly about it all because the child would be Greg's grandchild...

She's being very creepy IMO. The things she has said to Annette have been all about her own agenda, not about what's best for Annette at all.

If you believe, as Helen claims to, in choice, how is it OK to then tell a woman who states that her mind is made up that (a) you, for your own reasons, want her to think about it more, and (b) if she'd only agree not to have the abortion, you'd help her raise the child? Very coming from a friend with no experience of babies, even if there is a tangential family connection.

Annette is young, very immature, likely to be soon out of a job, emotionally vulnerable, short on family support, and single. I think it's an opportunity to show that abortion is not always a choice women have to regret. Will be annoyed if Helen gets her way on this.

Is private adoption legal/possibe in the UK? If so I think that's what they are working towards. Helen forces presuades Annette to keep the child then adpts it, we have years of intrigue.

I missed a few episodes, am I right in thinking the child is Helen's (ex?) boyfriends?

Yes, he seduced Annette with bottles of wine and persuasive flattery one night while Helen was out. Annette felt like utter crap immediately and has been moping guiltily ever since.

I know it takes two to tango etc, but still: the snake Leon was exploiting her obvious vulnerability and need to be wanted for the sake of a quick shag, and Helen is now on the border of playing on those same qualities, coming close to suggesting that a baby could be the answer to her problems etc. So wrong! Not sure whether the revelation about Leon being the father would change anything in Helen's mind -- I do look forward to her finding out though

Private adoption is no longer legal in the UK.

That won't stop Helen trying though. Her biological clock has just started ticking (loudly) and, given her rubbish track record with men, she sees this as her best chance. She'd be a sort of grandma really as she already acts like Annette's mother!
