Why would anyone want to hear about the 'difficulties' involved in a long holiday expedition, living in a stately home or putting on a play about some kind of weird minority issue that no one wants to watch.

The vanity, the self indulgence, the smugness argggghh!!!!

I am careful not to listen but sometimes hear a few words by mistake and that's enough.

I want to like Libby Purves but I really can't bear the clunky way she Opens Up the debate by asking everyone, one after another, how they feel about Nature; or asking everyone to nominate their fave children's book
Midweek mostly sounds like a really random, seriously under-alcoholed dinner party

It is so boring and badly done that it becomes compelling. Choose the most tedious subject, add a pretty tedious guest, ask them a question and then interrupt and answer for them.

Even interesting people become boring once they get into Purves's orbit.

Libby Purves is the Anti-Christ except less interesting.

The smugness is breath-taking, the showing off about herself and dropping in all the knowing comments always implying how much she knows and how she's snuggled into the inside track on all things except she's too enormous to squeeze into the inside track and the giggling and references to anything high brow, snooty, aristocratic which immediately makes her almost uncontainably aroused. It's just a living hell to listen to. And when she gets all serious and uses her deeper caring voice, then the only option is to run to the kitchen and cut off your own head with a massive knife so you can't hear the wretched Harridan from her terrible studio of dullness and doom!
Free us from her!
We deserve better!
