I am sorry but this woman is so irritating that I could literally throw myself under a bus with despair when I hear her. Unfortunately the material of the programme is interesting but her presenting style and interviewing technique makes me want to end it all!

It's so obvious she thinks her voice is sexy and she plays on it all the time and Mariella Frostrups it up by going deeper and going all Cadbury's flake JUST STOP IT STRUMPET!!

Her questions are very often really poor, full of girly/giggling fan-like awe or presumptious statement questions. I mean what's wrong with an OPEN questions Francine? No, she must always show off how little she knows!

So presumptious! So flirty! So often betraying that she isn't really listening properly arghhhhhhhh!

It's such a great job, how did this woman get it?

Lol Oh dear, she does rub you up the wrong way (and a 'strumpet on R4...I am to the core).

I'm sure I've listened to this but haven't picked up on any annoyingness..but now you've highlighted it I'll be tuning in with sharpened radar.

Once someone does this to your ears it's all you can hear isn't it?

The chap that does the moneybox programme annoys me. He gets everyone to phone in with v personal money problems then belittles them on the radio if it's not a highbrow enough question. I don't even know his name btw!

His voice is too high for a man, it's just scary how high and nasal it is. And he can't help hiding his contempt for the poor punters who didn't know that there assets were toxic or whatever! I can't bear his voice!

but you just listen to Francine and then you will share my pain. She thinks she is absolutely adorable, she thinks her voice is like chocolate. Why doesn't anyone stop her! I have to listen to theprogramme because I love programmes about film, I listen to all of them but it is a real chore listening to this Hussy!!!!

She did an interview with Stephen Frears and an author at Frears' house and she was flirting so much and giggling so much and making her voice go all low and coquettish that I thought one of the interviewees might get scared and call an ambulance. Have some dignity you wretched woman!!

I need to strap some kind of poultice to my head and go to bed!!!!!

I can't believe there aren't more contributers to this thread cos lots of R4 fans on mn, I know...come out of hiding!

I loathe and love in equal measure the entire cast of the Archers but I think that's quite normal from what I've read on here.

I also can't bear to listen to Thought for the Day. I'm sure the content is all quite noble etc but it's usually so badly and painfully read out. You hear them missing the full stops and speeding up and slowing down; it sounds terrible. Anyway I also tune it out because it's far too early in the morning to be that magnanimous about anything.

Anyway back to Francine, I shall be throwing tomatoes at the radio next time just to support you in your cause Queenceleste!

I do love R4 though, it keeps me (partially) sane

Tsar, I adore Radio 4 it would be worth the whole license fee for me given the hours I listen to it!
But I agree, hating it it part of the relationship. It's like a highly functional dysfunctional marriage!

But please listen to La Stock and tell me if it's just me. I want to know if I'm wrong. But really the sense that she thinks her voice is sexy is so overpowering that I do want to end it all.

Looked her up on wikipedia and she has some academic clout. Why then ask such stupid questions??!!

All this about Francine has gone over my head. I mentally switch off when film stars come on TV/radio telling me why their latest masterpiece is the best thing they have ever done (well, since the last time at least).

Surely Francine doesn't think that she stands a chance in the sexy voice competition when she is on the same channel as the sainted Ms Green.

My favourite is John Wilson on Front Row. Lovely voice and knows his stuff.
