That my dad died 7 weeks ago and I'd give away every penny I had if he could have had one more year of good health and happiness. And he could spend away, it never bothered me or my sibling.

Most of us do not sit around wishing that our parents do not live too long - yes that is what he said. Okay, he is a comedy writer and he has written a comedy based on this plotline but still his comments riled me.

Yes I know he was being tongue in cheek and that I am a bit over sensitive about it but wanted to get this off my chest.

As you were.

I'm sorry to hear about your dad.

It's also horrible to come across something unexpectedly which really does upset you and pisses you off.

You are right that it was tongue in cheek and you are being a bit over sensitive, but perfectly understandable and you are allowed to be upset by it.

Thank you Armadillo.
I meant to add he was only 63 and did not have time to enjoy his retirement or pension.

"Everything I Own"

(As recorded by Bread)
DAVID GATES

You sheltered me from harm
Kept me warm... kept me warm
You gave my life to me
Set me free... set me free
The finest years I ever knew
Were all the years I had with you

And I would give anything I own
Would give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again.

You taught me how to love
What it's of... what's it's of
You never said too much
But still you showed the way, and I knew
From watchin' you
Nobody else could ever know
The part of me that can't let go.

And I would give anything I own
Would give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again.

Is there someone you know, you're loving them so
But taking them all for granted?
You may lose them one day
Someone takes them away
And they don't hear the words longed to say.

I would give anything I own
Would give up my life, my heart, my home
I would give everything I own
Just to have you back again
Just to touch you once again.

Lost it when I heard this on the radio yesterday Cathcat. Would so give everything anything all of it just don't care, to have my little boy back and my Dad just for a short while. Life is too short and too precious things are just things and don't mean anything in the grand scheme of life.

Take care, it still must be very raw only 7 weeks hope you are taking good care of yourself.

So sorry for your loss, it must be a very difficult time for you, especially at this time of year.

I know what you mean. Both of my parents died when I was in my 20s. As a result I had enough money to buy a flat and be (relatively) financially secure.

You would be amazed at how many people have told me how lucky I am or how jealous they are! They don't mean it in that way of course but it is still offensive. One day I shall turn round and say 'yes, cancer's marvellous isn't it!'
