Less high brow and political than Radio 4.
Less sport and slightly more intelligence than Radio 5
Slightly less music and bigotry than Radio 2
Less irritating presenters and no adverts unlike local radio.

I need Radio Flum:

A bit like Mumsnet but on the radio. Eg About 7 songs an hour, a mixture of classics, rock, pop.

Quite a lot of talk shows current affairs, bit of celeb gossip etc.....

I feel there is a gap in the radio market.

there is a really good one in Oxfordshire called Jack FM

CapnJadetheKnife · 26/10/2008 20:38

My perfect radio station came out with bbc7.

Drama, comedy and some interviews mostly pulled out of the bbc archives. NO music (cept in kiddies hour).

Have you explored the digital radio options.

Lol at less music and bigotry than radio 2! SO true.

NoBiggy · 26/10/2008 20:43

Jack is all music though. I liked it until even their playlist got samey (understand it's about twice the size of other stations).

I try and find something to listen to at work - I even go international sometimes.

Usually end up with something from the previous week on BBC7.

harpsichordcarrier · 26/10/2008 20:47

yes Jack is all music. personally I am a R4/R3 girl but I can't remember a time when I have turned on Jack for a little light relief and not really enjoyed the music
which is very very unusual for me

NoBiggy · 26/10/2008 21:55

I loved it when I first found it (on about a two mile stretch of the M4 when the weather's right!), and had it on the PC at work, but it does get samey.

Lately I've had Original 106.5 from Bristol on.

Years ago a colleague would bring her radio in tuned to Magic. Which was fine, but I soon realised that they played the same tunes every night, in the same order!

And it's sad that these days, when you're travelling and don't like the music, hit the scan button and there's the same music on every independant station in range.

I like LBC it has everything you want but no music i'm afraid.

Might be able to get Jack as am in Wiltshire.

I have a Digital radio it s lovely. A Pure one.

But here we can't get any of the BBC stations.

Can get Absolute which I quite like, Ourkindofmusic which I love for weekend lie-ins and insomniac moments.

Could have BBC7 on in kitchen via computer in day-time might try that.

Am ok with Radio 4 for most of day but then it starts to do my head in. The Today presenters are so aggressive they irritate me and I have to be honest my interest in International politics is limited. Often like Womans HOur, don't mind You and Yours and World at One. Alot of their programmes are about such random and lets face it boring subjects that one wonders what they were thinking. Also too much religion on a Sunday.

I loved my DAB when I first got it, but so many of the stations I used, even just once in a while, are no more. Used to like to put Fun radio on for the kids at breakfast time, but that finished (at least it's on the skybox still). I'm wondering if I'd like an internet radio for Christmas, and use that in the kitchen instead.

I think you have to pick and choose. I listen to Today, then R5 til Woman's Hour. Then back to R5 during the book. Then flit between R4 and R5 until Simon Mayo. Then you're safe with R5 until 7pm.

treacletart · 01/12/2008 19:43

Id give Radio Flum a go! I do a lot of bbc7 nowadays - and I like the Radio France station FIP for its eclectic mellow music mix. I'm hoping for an internet radio soon - They're a LOT cheaper than they used to be.

You need to explore the internet radio stations on iTunes! There HAS to be one there for you. Am also hoping for an internet radio for xmas.
