Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would love to attend Pip's wedding with Natasha and the starry twins, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Starting the new thread a bit early as I'm not sure I'll have much internet access for the next few days. Fill up the old one first. And then - over to you!

(Credit for the thread title goes to @TripleSulko.)

It was indeed Aunt Camilla, and I have no idea whether she was older or younger than dear Nigel. In character she was to him as Lily is to Freddie, I feel, but I don't think they were twins.

I don't recall an Uncle Piers; whose uncle? Piers was the name of Camilla's son with her husband James, born in 2002, but that would make him Nigel's nephew and a cousin to Nigel's children. Was he named after a deceased brother of Camilla and Nigel's, perhaps? I genuinely have no idea; clearly in 2002 I didn't think him of any importance except as an excuse for Nigel and Elizabeth to be rid of Julia for a bit.

Camilla Burnham (for that was her surname) was played by Patricia Hodge.

At least I remembered bits even if they were a bit jumbled.
It was probably just a name they liked, or that the SW thought sounded pretentious. They weren't twins.
Twins are more common now.

Stella, aged 47, seems to have no property or assets we know about. Pip, aged 33, is going (or was going) to inherit a working farm.

BeatriceBatchelor · 16/10/2026 19:11

I'm surprised more hasn't been made of the large age gap. Though I supposed that was secondary to Pip announcing she was now gay.

Sidebeforeself · 16/10/2026 19:14

Stella and Pip as a couple have never been believable to me. In fact I am on record here as saying the wedding will never happen! However I think Im wrong. It will happen but there will be An Incident with far reaching consequences.

BeatriceBatchelor · 16/10/2026 19:18

An Incident with far reaching consequences.

I do hope so.

I'm going to be very disappointed if there isn't at least one tragic death, preferably not Freddie. It would be good if it was caused by David again, giving him a hat trick, but he'd also make a deserving victim.

Unicorn costumes for dogs are readily available on Amazon.

echt · 16/10/2026 20:55

If Elizabeth was the least bit serious about Freddie's inheritance she'd have sat down with him and the Trust paperwork before now to look at what the Trustees say in writing. Instead she keeps secrets from him - and then blames Vince.

She has no more intention of handing over LL than Brian does of his farm.

I don't think Freddie is whining, that's the SWs bringing his character back into play because, oo-er he's 26 now and bound to have noticed he's not taking part in running LL. He's done his time, literally and metaphorically, and is being lied to and held back.

muddyford · 16/10/2026 21:06

David inadvertently causing the death of Vince would be excellent. If he can take out J#y and Muck, Pip and Rosie, Paul and Linda he'd be doing a Great Thing. And Martin.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/10/2026 13:23

I think his conviction for drug-dealing would have made it difficult if not impossible for him to go to Sandhurst; the army is not all that keen on drugs among the officers. Quite apart from that, I don't think he is even remotely suited to a job which involves being prepared to kill people: he wouldn't have made it through his term there even if they had accepted him.

Growing up as Lily’s sibling ought to fit a chap for a role in which killing people is part of the job description. Transference, obviously, but wor Freddie should have taken to it like a duck to ducks.

WeaselPax · 16/10/2026 21:30

The endings of the latest episodes seem to be really abrupt and incomplete…anyone else? It feels like they keep stopping in the middle of a conversation.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 16/10/2026 21:44

It's probably intended to encourage us to tune in for The Royal Wedding.

BeatriceBatchelor · 16/10/2026 22:34

When they planned to have their wedding in England in mid October, did it not occur to Pip & Stella that the weather might be wet & windy?

sorry …came on to say Lynda but see you already got her.

Although it looks cute, I think dressing up a cat or dog is cruel. I understand a coat and little snow shoes in the winter, but any other sort of clothing on animals isn't very pet friendly to me.
Wedding is going to go smoothly.
Hope Kiera does go, it would be a total waste of time and fun if she dosnt, (a bit of sarcasm there!).

DeanElderberry · 17/10/2026 07:56

I agree with you about dressing animals in fancy costumes, and the models on the sales sites are clearly less than impressed with being decked out in planet-destroying tat, but I don't think the 'unicorn' was going to be a volunteer, and I really want the wedding to be a disaster aka triumph.

I suppose the best thing would be for Pip to be deaded just after she has irrevocably committed all her worldly goods to Stella.

No because weather isn’t really important to farmers is it?

WitcheryDivine · 17/10/2026 08:46

Maybe Jill will simply blow away.

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 17/10/2026 08:52

I'm a bit behind, sorry if this has been chewed over at nauseam. But one, was Freddie always this camp?

And two, I'm all in favour of someone like Freddie having a real job in fhe real world before inheriting a stately home, but if they want him to know how to run it, they will actually have to let him get involved. Transferable skills are all very well, but I don't know how much use knowing the ins and outs of an abbatoir is really going to be. (Yes, I have queued in a National Trust cafe on a bank holiday, what's your point? 😂)

BeatriceBatchelor · 17/10/2026 09:37

Over Elizabeth's cold dead body. She really believes LL is hers and no one can run it better. Or get the chance to try.

I’m surprised they haven’t got her making the wedding cake and flapjacks for the reception

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 17/10/2026 11:36

She's probably doing the catering and minding the children. And she probably made the bride and bridesmaid outfits and flowers.

What were the wedding favours - sugared stars and pips?

And we must add a deading from the younger section of Ambridge. I vote Keira, if only to not hear that whining voice again.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 17/10/2026 12:05

Signed. Are you sure Tracy started it? Not that it matters but...
