Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you would love to attend Pip's wedding with Natasha and the starry twins, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-12-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Starting the new thread a bit early as I'm not sure I'll have much internet access for the next few days. Fill up the old one first. And then - over to you!

(Credit for the thread title goes to @TripleSulko.)

If only the wedding was blasted.

Maybe Freddie could save the day and only the Broom and Guide, Fat Rosie and Vince be dedded.

Sidebeforeself · 14/10/2026 14:25

But wasn’t it a storm that dedded Nigel? I may be wrong as that was before my time as a listener, but if not surely the SWs couldnt be that imaginative?! Oh wait…

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 14/10/2026 14:28

Nigel slipped off the roof. That's the story anyway.

David was on the roof with him but it was Voldemort's Wife wot dedded him.

Darker · 14/10/2026 14:32

We’ve had flood, falling off the roof, car falling in the river…

For the 75th Anniversary maybe they’ll come up with something nice for once. Hopefully something less fantastical than a unicorn.

Sidebeforeself · 14/10/2026 14:33

I meant to type that the SW were being UNimaginative by the way, but you knew that…

Madcats · 14/10/2026 14:37

I don’t care about the Wedding. I’ll wait for it to get onto Sounds so that I can skip through it at breakneck speed (caveat: I might rethink this strategy if you lot report anything shocking).

It is pretty shortsighted of Elizabeth and the Trustees not to involve Freddie in parts of the running of the Estate. She hasn’t been without physical and mental health scares over the years and the costs associated with running a stately home/orangery restaurant/treetop walk/vineyard/events barn (and goodness knows what else) must cause her to have sleepless nights.

Sidebeforeself · 14/10/2026 14:42

Thanks @Every1ElseInKnowsley . I knew there was some weather event involved.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 14/10/2026 14:43

Maybe some loose slates could ded Pip

Just one loose little slate. Another one could ded Vince. Lizardbreath is in my black books too. I hope that before long there will be a little Chelserick to carry on the Pargetter line.

Oh please, oh please, oh please .... I will be very good for the rest of my life if we get a radio equivalent to this.

It would be epic, wouldn't it!

Or maybe the ghost of Uncle Nigel ,doomed forever to be on a rooftop, could throw the slates at her?

But wasn’t it during a storm that he went up on the roof?

It was on a night on which the moon (according to David at the inquest) came up and showed the roof clearly whilst he and Nigel were on it. There was a high wind and heavy frost, but not a storm. I think even Nigel, who was a bit of a twerp as well as being drunk at the time, would not have gone onto the roof for no good reason in the middle of the night during a storm. He'd have had the sense to wait till morning and then asked Kenton, who had put the banner up there, to get it down.

No loose slate was mentioned either at the time or at the inquest, only that he had slipped because of the frost.

People who check the moon phase for Sunday 2nd January, 2011 will discover that the moon did not rise and illuminate Lower Loxley roof shortly before midnight on that date, because it was a waning crescent which rose at 06:46 that day and set at 14:13, but you can't expect a scriptwriter to notice details like that, though you can't help wondering why David invented a moon that wasn't there.

I like that! [rubs hand in anticipation]

BeatriceBatchelor · 14/10/2026 15:52

Why did Pip ask her awful mother to walk her down the aisle? Why not her dad?

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 14/10/2026 15:53

Cos Pip is TWFL

Unicorns my feckin arse.

I ❤Freddie

FullOfLemons · 14/10/2026 16:08

Well you are going to be in for tears @Every1ElseInKnowsley

The SW are bound to have him bankrupt LL and end his days in penury.

Remember the words of John Finnemore “ … in the Archers essentially all the men are Icarus …”

That sounds like our Freddie for sure.

NetballHoop · 14/10/2026 16:28

On a stormy day an irritated and scared horse that has had a lance stuck to its head could probably do a lot of damage, maybe even some dedding.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 14/10/2026 16:33

@FullOfLemons , Noooooo! Sad Can't you be full of otters or something?

That’s more like it. A couple of witnesses could have a heart attack after witnessing their friends being impaled by a pony’s horn.

Under normal circumstances Azzra would have revived them (but she’s still sulking about Ruth showing her son dead sheep pics). Alistair and Jakob are also staying away so they don’t get it in the neck again about the hike in vet fees.

I hear the hopeful note in your words.

I haven’t listened to several episodes so might have missed this but why didn’t Stella ask her brother to give her away?

When Brian and Hannah were urging her to tone down her tirade I thought it was because Josh had in fact turned up and was standing at the bar. David’s hissy fit and sulky refusal to walk her down the aisle was very funny.

Madcats · 14/10/2026 20:32

I must admit that I’ve not been paying a huge amount of attention to the wedding admin, but why do two middle-ages ladies need to be “given away” by anybody?

Geronimode · 14/10/2026 20:52

David must be missing Josh as I’d have expected him to join in. Sneering at Josh was his main hobby.
