Boring stories to send me to sleep?

MochaMaybe · 28/07/2026 20:33

If I can’t sleep I listen to podcasts and and audiobooks I would love some recommendations please
Recently I’ve found Boring History for Sleep but it sometimes features loud music which then wakes me up.
Would prefer no ads and happy to pay.
Any recommendations for a narrator with a soporific voice and something that lasts at least 60 minutes?
Have Spotify and Audible as well as Apple Podcasts

thank you

Have you tried 'white noise'?

shoddybrollies · 28/07/2026 20:37

Dead sleep: true crime for bedtime. No loud music and no ads

Headspace on YouTube, look for cat marina and rainy day antique shop. I have horrible sleep problems but both of them do well at getting me to drift off - even if I can't then stay asleep! The cat one is particularly lovely, there are little meows and the gentle clanking of ships going up and down with the tide. All free.

thanks @SaraHoliday yes and guided meditation but I find gentle stories seem to work the best for me

Just listen to a Coldplay album.

Podcast that is literally called I can’t sleep. Narrator Benjamin Boster reads Wikipedia articles. I find him very soothing.

The other one I like is Lights Out Library. Advert right at the start but I’m a Patreon member so no ads.

I used to like sleepmagic -get sleepy in… but there is a new presenter I don’t get on with. I still go back to the older ones from time to time. I have never got to the end of an episode!

Just listen to a Coldplay album.

You are naughty 😂
Plus Viva La Vida would have even you up dancing !!!

Someone recommended it on here but I find it soothing listening to the audio books of my childhood favourites - Enid Blyton, Laura Ingalls Wilder, Noel Streatfeild etc. I know the stories and what’s going to happen next so I drift off.

Nothing Much Happens is an absolutely brilliant podcast, a lady with a very soporific voice reads stories that she’s written where…. nothing much happens 😂 they’re super soothing and always about something idyllic and lovely. She reads the story twice and goes slower the second time, I don’t think I’ve ever heard the end of an episode!

CheeseWisely · 28/07/2026 20:52

A Short History Of on the Noiser network. Soothing narrators and no laughing / unexpected sound effects.

Yes! I came here to recommend that as well

In the same vein as the Charles Dickens Short Stories, I would highly recommend the Sherlock Holmes Short Stories on BBC Sounds. They are narrated by Hugh Bonneville, who I must say is excellent.
I always fall asleep to them, which is a compliment!
Sorry as not sure how to link

Definitely this one! Available on BBC Sounds. Each episode is about 50-60 mins and the narration is truly soporific

Reporting back, I tried True Crime for Bedtime last night and it worked a treat.
Have downloaded so many of your recommended, thank you

There are sleep stories on YouTube.

Silverbirchleaf · 29/07/2026 14:00

The Calm app has some stories plus tips for relaxing at night.

Agapornis · 30/07/2026 09:54

It's the 00:45am Shipping Forecast for me (but only 14 minutes), or the Sleeping Forecast, an extended edition with very gentle music, waves, and birdsong.

Does it count as a story with a haphazard narrative? 😅

OvernightBloats · 30/07/2026 09:59

Definitely 'A short history of...' BBC Sounds. The narrator has one of the best voices I have ever heard which lulls me into sleep every time (even though the subject matter is interesting)
