Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to be Brian's child or stepchild, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

What’s happened to Emma?!

What’s happened to Emma?!

I wondered if she is busy elsewhere but IMDB doesn't show anything. It is frustrating that central characters just disappear for weeks on end.

Where is Elizabeth?

Also promising storylines which don't happen. The Gills at Home Farm or what surely would have been tension with Helen and family and Tom and family all shut up in one house.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 17/07/2026 12:15

I don't think we've heard Emma since the beginning of April and not heard the Horville since the end of January.

PatChaunceysFruitCake · 17/07/2026 12:54

Rochelle was the most disappointing SL in a long time. After the dramatic turning up at Christmas I had such high hopes for a good SL.

Alas…

Eastie77Returns · 17/07/2026 15:43

I find the continued mention of Wren as a half-brother to the twins and Kirsty’s unborn child mawkish and bizarre. Where will it end, will Tom and Kirsty’s children be expected to tell their children about the uncle they never knew?

I have to say I’ve never been convinced that a man like Tom would still care so much about the child he lost all these years later.

Nopasswordresetemailsent · 17/07/2026 16:07

There’s part of me that thinks Toms response seemed learned - it is about how he is expected to feel rather than how he acutally feels. I don’t remember much conversation at the time (or maybe I wasn’t listening then) but I’m pretty sure I remember Kirsty telling him she’d called him wren (in retrospect - maybe having being to visit to some memorial garden…. I didn’t think he’d been at all at that point). Also explains how he got the recent conversation with Kirsty so wrong. He went in thinking he was supposed to feel as she did and it’s taken all this for him to realise it’s not the same at all, but he didn’t recognise that as actually there wasn’t the honest sentiment behind his action.

WitcheryDivine · 15/07/2026 23:42

Feeling a bit over invested in Kirsty because our pregnancies are almost exactly in line 😬

Mine was with Ruth when she was expecting Pip 😳😁

Madcats · 17/07/2026 19:16

Monty: Chapeau to the SWs!

JanFebAndOnwards · 17/07/2026 19:19

How on earth didn’t they notice blood etc, as above??

TottersBlankly · 17/07/2026 19:23

Possibly a visitor dobermann?

It does seem very unlikely that neither Lynda nor Robert noticed any evidence on the day in question.

Madcats · 17/07/2026 19:30

T’internet reckons that Monty is/was a hairy lurcher-cross rescue dog.

I could have sworn that Harrison said he was a doberman (which seems an unlikely dog for Lynda)? I CBA to listen again, so welcome corrections.

What with the (dis)appearance of bedrooms, arable fields suddenly hosting livestock, invalids going walkabout (Bert), new orchards, expanding rivers….and now dogs changing breed in a whim. Ambridge is truly a magical place!

LivelyGreyShark · 17/07/2026 19:33

I always pictured Monty as a small terrier type, how is he a doberman? Actually my mistake, Monty was announced as being a Doberman in 2018 on the official FB Archer page.

FizzingAda · 17/07/2026 19:53

Lynda's not the type to not know where her dog is at all times, or to leave it loose in the garden for the lengthy period of time it would take to savage several sheep. Not to mention the blood all over it in it's return, and being hyper after the killing. She's a responsible person and a dog lover. If they pin this on Monty I shall despair and think the SWs have never had anything more than a goldfish as a pet.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 17/07/2026 19:59

LillianGish · 11/07/2018 08:51
Can someone pleaser mind me, is Monty Lynda’s dog or is he another one she is dog sitting. I haven’t missed an perished, but I seem to have missed out on the moment when she acquired Monty. Also what breed is he - I can’t picture him at all?
...
ADarkandStormyKnight · 11/07/2018 08:52
He's a Doberman.

Gonners · 17/07/2026 20:12

Dobermanns are allegedly quite intelligent (at least by dog standards - cats sneer at the very idea of any dog being intelligent), so Monty probably went for a quick dip in the Am to wash away the evidence.

I agree. There's no way Monty could have been loose and savaged a bunch of sheep without Lynda noticing. So I hope he is cleared and bit just becomes a PSA on how the police can track thus kindness thing these says.

TeenToTwenties · 17/07/2026 20:43

Apologies for random words from my stupid phone.

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 17/07/2026 21:35

I can't see Lynda with a doberman at all.

And I’m not sure I’d trust them with a goldfish, although they would probably bond with it over the short memory thing.

Too much to hope that Monty will savage the Snell woman next, I suppose. Ah well.

Nopasswordresetemailsent · 17/07/2026 22:20

Wouldn’t Kirsty recognise baby kicks from
her last pregnancy? I’m very confused by this and why it’s featuring every 5 minutes. Is it to reassure us or is she going to have an episode of reduced foetal movement to get us all panicking?

Yes.. Elizabeth, Vince and Freddie all missing for a while

Nos4r2 · 18/07/2026 06:40

I thought Monty was a Spaniel, I wasnt listening much in 2018.
We used to have a Doberman and she wasnt that intelligent in fact she was a bit dopey.
I dont believe it is Monty, I think as I said before that Lynda and Robert would have known. The SW were so transparent with this story. TUT!
Oh Harrison and Fallon making breakfast was so forced, they aren't going to last much longer.

PuggyPuggyPuggy · 18/07/2026 07:07

Gonners · 17/07/2026 21:43

Indeed! Bring back Scruff!

That's probably it, I just picture her with the kind of wire-haired mystery mutt that would be called scruff. Or maybe one of those stately old greyhounds that spend most of their time sleeping and then walk around like ageing minor royals on an official visit.

If the culprit is an Ambridge dog, I can only really be George's. I mean, that thing was missing for years before it briefly popped up to menace Kenton, and then promptly vanished again.

CaptainMyCaptain · 18/07/2026 07:50

I don't think George's dog actually menaced Kenton. Kenton, understandably, reacted badly due to his experience with Markie's dog. It doesn't mean George's dog is vicious although many on MN believe all dogs are just waiting to kill you if they look at you.
