Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to be Brian's child or stepchild, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

It's probably one of Amber's parents, or perhaps one of their spies.

Sidebeforeself · 30/06/2026 14:30

How would be a good name for Kirsty’s baby

Darker · 30/06/2026 15:07

Helen is establishing herself as the parking police.

I hope there are diagrams.

'she's got a daughter in the year below Jack'
Jack is 10 (dob 21052016), so presumably it will be a girl in the year above Fat Rosie, who will be 9 in November.
Not sure if Madison is in the year above Fat Rosie. I thought they were the same age but in a tiny village school it might not matter.

I went to a small village school and you'd get unbalanced mixes. My year had only one boy, the year above and below only one girl. All the girls played together, went to birthday parties etc. All the boys played together.
The 'odd ones out' had a cousin in the group.
Like Ambridge, you married someone from the same village. Smile

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 30/06/2026 16:18

Maybe Mini Miller will be called Kit. It's unisex, I think.

@TeenToTwenties , how would the therapist discover the trauma? Can't you see that he's probably not been traumatised by it and the therapy would probably create problems. He's had a loving home and family around him and as yet isn't showing signs of trauma.

Henry is a different kettle of fish. He's aware that, unlike his brother, he doesn't have a father, he was there when Rob was with Helen...
He seems well-adjusted and level-headed and is more likely to have problems.
Neither Henry nor Jack show signs of challenges such as anxiety, depression, trauma, behavioural disorders, learning difficulties or family conflicts yet.

Sharing a bedroom seems to be a problem but Henry is 15 and Jack 8 so it's not likely to be plain sailing.

Apologies if this has been mentioned, I listen about a week behind, and therefore am about a week behind on the thread, but Jack turned 10 last month.

Gonners · 30/06/2026 19:57

Does it matter how old these children are? They always seem to be old beyond their years (Henry, unsurprisingly) or permanent toddler-mentality (Row-Zee).

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 30/06/2026 20:29

@Gonners , I was trying to figure out who the SUV driver might be.
I added Jack's DoB because I thought I'd posted the wrong age before.
The pp probably hadn't seen my post from this afternoon.

The age of the characters does matter. Poor Keira has been ignored for 15 years.

Sidebeforeself · 30/06/2026 20:37

Fat Rosie is going to be 9??! Oh my god where does the time go ?(MNing and listening to The Archers apparently!)

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 30/06/2026 20:41

Or in Fat Rosie's case, eating cakes and behaving like a spoilt toddler.
(In my case MNing and listening to TA. )

BeatriceBatchelor · 30/06/2026 23:05

You can tell Lottie is a friend of Pip. She has a similar annoying delivery. Hope she isn't a permanent feature.

echt · 01/07/2026 00:26

How dreadful are Amber's parents? Interfering, as predicted. This will not stop any time soon,

JoelenesParrot · 01/07/2026 07:40

Everything was bumping along so well with the Brian-Adam feud, Helen bullying the pregnant Kirsty into climbing a ladder and no sign of Jy or the Ml*ks. Then we get turgid scenes with Amber’s Dad at the show and Chris chit-chatting with the dull-as-wet-cardboard Lottie. How can the script-writing be so erratic? I hope the rest of the week isn’t going to unfold in the same vein. I will have dropped off my perch before the Borchester show even starts…

I thought exactly the same. In fact I couldn't believe how similar they sound. Do you think this is deliberate? I can't believe that, given a choice, any actress would choose to model their delivery on Pip's. Very strange.

iratepirate · 01/07/2026 10:18

When I hear Amber’s dad, I can’t help but think he’s modelled his delivery / character on Mr Wormwood from the Matilda musical.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 01/07/2026 11:46

How can the script-writing be so erratic Different scriptwriters. This week's SW is a new or newish one. (see the Spoilers thread if you want more info.)

We don't know Lottie to have any thoughts on her character, so probably don't care much for her. Why the references to Tarot?
Chris is not a main character, he's an Aldridge adjacent.I care about his because of Alice and the Carters but he's not veryinteresting otherwise.
The Lottie actor is not as bad as Pip's. Nobody is as bad as Pip.

Amber is too new for me to care much about her and the personality change didn't help. I care about Bill because he's Mr Natasha IRL.
Amber with George is ok because of the George actor.

TottersBlankly · 01/07/2026 12:00

I’d disagree about Chris, he’s pivotal! Connected by blood or marriage to:

Carters
Horrobins
Grundys
Aldridges

So essentially almost everyone whose surname isn’t Archer - and his daughter is a blood Archer. (As is Alice of course, but Martha gives him a true connection to the Archer clan.)

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 01/07/2026 12:20

@TottersBlankly , he is but he's not a major character. He's not particularly interesting. What happens to him affects the Aldridges/Carters/Horrobins matters but he himself doesn't matter that much to me.

Him seeing Lottie affects mainly Alice, Martha and Susan. The interactions with those characters are far more interesting.

Jakob for example is not particularly pivotal but I feel quite different about the scenes with him. OK he works with Alistair, will be uncle to MiniMiller and is Kate's OH but in theory if he left Ambridge the show would go on -and I'd be pissed off--.

I'm thinking that just now we're in a sort of "calm before the storm" period - hope so anyway, things need livening up!

ExitPursuedByABare · 01/07/2026 12:43

I want to listen in on Helen’s interactions with the SUV driver.

Every1ElseInKnowsley · 01/07/2026 14:22

ExitPursuedByABare · 01/07/2026 12:43

I want to listen in on Helen’s interactions with the SUV driver.

I'm really intrigued by the SUV. I think it's winding Helen up no end. I hope it parks outside Helen's house.

What number is Helen's house? Tracy's is No 6, so it could be No 4, 5, 7 or 8.

I think that Susan got talked out of naming No 1 but she did get a new front door.

Darker · 01/07/2026 14:35

I wondered if it was Lottie’s car. But Ambers mum would be more interesting.
