How much radio do you listen to?

I'm 18 and probs should be lsitening to more radio but for me I have Capital on to and from college and when I'm going out places with family always have the radio on (Capital). When I'm at home I never usually listen to the radio (maybe it's less popular these days). I don't listen to podcasts but my dad does. However, I've decided to stop that habit in the morning as capital breakfast with Jordan, Chris and Sian is too woke for me now. My radio can still be left out for me just in case. Your turn, how much do you listen to. Anything throughout the day

I listen to some 6 Music, but predominantly Greatest Hits Radio, especially when working from home. 70s-90s music is my jam. Like Nick Grimshaw too in the mornings though.

Why do you think you should be listening to more radio?

I do a lot of driving for a my job and typically listen to chosen playlists for my mood on Apple Music. I am fond of a podcast but I have to be in the mood and probably listen to LBC once or twice a week.

DP works from home and liked LBC in my car so bought a radio and either listens to them or something relaxed like smooth chill. I know he flirts with a few others like capital but I think he drowns out most of the talking.

I don’t know the breakfast show you mean but I definitely find some LBC presenters more grating than others and some are fine but we completely disagree on certain topics. I think that’s normal.

I have the radio on all day, from when I get up until getting everything ready before bed (like now for instance).
Used to be R2 but with most of the old favourites gone I have moved over to GHR and it is a delight.
The only time I venture back to R2 is for Lisa Tarbuck & Gary Davies on a Sat evening.

Why is Capital too "woke"? What does that even mean?

BitOutOfPractice · 06/01/2026 23:17

Capital is too woke?!

I listen 7 days a week. The first thing I do is turn the radio on in the morning. If it’s not the radio I’m permanently tuned into a podcast - mostly history.

LasVegass · 06/01/2026 23:19

How can Sian, Jordan and Chris be too “woke”? What do you mean by that? They just play music and play silly games. I listen on the way to and from work. I love the Bong game, though often scream to the contestants to STOP and get the money, the silly sods.

Pancakeflipper · 06/01/2026 23:20

I have the radio on everyday.
First thing in the morning I go between local radio, R5, R4 and R6.
Morning dog walk involves a podcast.

If working at home likely to have R2, R4 or R5 on.

Evening R6 and R4. And I check out R4Extra.

You’re 18 and capital is too woke? Ok 🤣

BeddieLife · 06/01/2026 23:34

I’m 38 and I don’t listen to any radio whatsoever and never have really apart from the odd thing on Radio 4 when it was still worth listening to . I hate annoying DJ chat, the music I like is a rarely what’s played and it’s just much better listening to my own collection or playlists on Spotify.

I listen to Radio 2 Monday to Friday mornings when I'm at work and will sometimes flick through the channels in my car to find something to sing along to while I'm driving.

None..YouTube for all my Northern soul requirements.

mondaytosunday · 07/01/2026 01:41

At your age (pre internet) the radio was very important to me. Now my kids (20, 22) tend to either do Spotify or podcasts. They don’t listen to any live stations. I listen to Radio 4 at home, in the car it’s radio 4, occasionally Smooth Jazz or Heart 80s. I don’t like a lot of chat - morning radio like Capital drives me nuts. I also listen to YouTube on in the car

EBearhug · 07/01/2026 01:59

I grew up without a TV, so we had R4 on all the time. I still have it on a lot, especially if I'm at home in the day. I catch up on some things on Sounds.

However, I am listening to more R3 rather than Today or PM for commuting time. Occasionally R2 or local radio.

Radio 5 Live every day for a couple of hours on the school run.

Manename · 07/01/2026 22:38

R4 in the morning but then move to Spotify on commute. Can’t listen while working. Evenings R4 sometimes or R5 for football.
I listen to a lot more podcasts. It does include BBC and American NPR that will have started on the radio that day or week.

On a longer journey in a car I like R3 or classic FM
