After the latest (crypto investing) I almost felt sorry for the bank - they couldn’t possibly have done any more to warn the couple, but had to refund them £80k anyway.

Yeah am loving it. I listen to You and Yours anyway so know most of the stories, but it's good to have a podcast so I can recommend to oldies!

There's a recent thread in 30 days only where the OP says
"Today she [elderly mother] asked me to come to the bank with her as she felt she needed help. I don't like doing stuff like that as it does trigger my anxiety really badly. But I went along anyway.

As soon as we got there the woman behind the counter looked hostile and highly suspicious. This increased when my mother said she wished to put a bit of money into my savings account (tax free/inheritance reasons). She had only done this once before about ten years ago.

The woman glared at me, her eyes darkening, demanding photo ID from me. I didn't have it. And failed to see why she'd need the photo ID of the recipient of money? I didn't say that though, just said I don't have any. She then made some other weird stalling excuse until she could take my mum into a private room.
Twenty minutes later my mum emerged in shock and she told me they interrogated her and then declared they thought I was coercing her for the money! She of course said that's not true but they denied her still. Refusing to acknowledge the truth."

I didn't read the whole thread but it the bank worker was only doing what she should be doing.
