Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you want to hear more from Markey, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Arf! "Places available on all courses through Clearing, email us now... or call us ..." Or perhaps just turn up on the day? No GCSEs? No problem!

One of the men I know who went there (and "graduated") in its Cirencester days was very prestigiously educated but couldn't pass what was then O-level maths. He had the good sense to marry an accountant.

I went to an agricultural uni - the RAC (Cirencester) alumni were referred to then as the clotted cream…

Also, happily, I was walking the dog this week and was delighted to come across a ‘no till seed drill’ in use. Not least because the ploughing up of our local clay makes walking awfully difficult as it all wants to come home with you.

At college, Cork boys from old merchant families were known to be the cream of the country.

WitcheryDivine
What else has Nick Warburton done to us ?

Well, there was the outbreak of coughing to try to cover up Rosie Ruth Grace's full name from Jill at the christening. And in the same week, Fallon's attack on Freddie because he got caught with drugs (like her father, and her ex-boyfriend, and let's not even think about her and all her friends using when they were even older than Freddie). And then there was Will rushing Poppy to hospital because he didn't believe all that ailed her was chicken-pox.

But worst of all, he introduced Joy Horville into the village. (Yes, I know it was the editor who did that really, but Warburton wrote her arrival.)

And then he wrote Jazzer and Alistair measuring up for Philip Moss to do the extension for Jim without bothering to consult Jim about it. And the hilarious scene in which Josh and Pip put David's jacket onto a scarecrow, how we all laughed at that one.

And that was all in the first three weeks he scripted.

I just want to WTAF Dane is thinking/not thinking with the faux-Mediaeval, Renaissance-Fayre theme for the F&P? What is his area of competence actually meant to be? He doesn't seem to have the foggiest idea about his job...
...and I thought Brad is meant to see through Amber/realise how awful she is? Why does he give a flying fart if she's upset?!

MinnieBaldock · 11/09/2025 05:36

I can't understand how much fuss is being made about Cilo and Rosie, it's not like Stella lives with Pip and if she does go round to Pip's she can always supervise Cilo and Rosie together isn't that what most people do with a new dog.
We have to talk about it. Every thing in Pips life is about Pip. I would say it's my dog and if you can't control your child then we have a big problem. Ben making it sound like Rosie was being mauled.
Freddie is a top notch coward and Lily should just speak up with out having to have a yes I am, no your not, conversation with Lynda about it.

MinnieBaldock · 11/09/2025 05:38

I meant to say everything in Pips life is about Pip and Rosie. I'm surprised she is so serious about Stella.

muddyford · 11/09/2025 06:23

After my sister lost her precious soft toy while we were out and about, my parents made sure the treasured ones never left the house! But sister was still in a pushchair, not at school. Pip should have told Rosie to leave Herbert at home, as Pip should know that dogs love soft furry things.

Who gives a child a 20 minute warning for going home? And who in their right mind shuts a rescue dog and a six year old in a room and says ‘what shall we play now’? Time and space. And the 3,3,3 rule.

I despair.

In answer to all your questions... Pip.

No one else would but she's um... Pip and therefore deeply self centered.

I thought it was Martha who had the essential giraffe, mostly called Ambrose but sometimes Alexander. Does Rosie also have a giraffe?

The dog's name, by the way, is Cleopatra. Cleo for short.

TheCrasher · 11/09/2025 12:36

Imagine the thread started by Stella.

Team Cilo here. 🐕

Thank you @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

Cleo.

Trivium4all · 11/09/2025 14:03

The moment Herbie the Giraffe was mentioned, I knew he was Chekhov's Gun.

CaptainMyCaptain · 11/09/2025 14:09

I still have my 67 year old teddy bear who has the wounds inflicted by our dachsund although my mother patched his paws with felt. Rosie needs to get over it. I also have my parents' Ercol dining furniture and the sideboard still has the same dog's teeth marks. I am reminded of Tufty, who died in 1973, every time I see them. It's part of having a dog.

Good gracious! My foot-felt-mended dachshund-ravaged cuddly of the same age is a toy donkey called Peter Burro. He was the reason I learned at a tender age to keep toys and the dog apart.

Lalgarh · 11/09/2025 14:23

Surely Cleo is a better name for a cat 😺

Bruisername · 11/09/2025 14:25

I don’t know if anyone has a DD the right age to have had a short obsession with the Australian mermaid program H2O but I can’t hear the name Cleo and not think of that

TheCrasher · 11/09/2025 14:37

The cats and dogs home near me doesn't currently have a Cleo. There's a cat called Yoghurt and a cat called Flamingo.
There's a dog called Marky, and as a nod to Cilo, there's a Ron.

Ha, the centre we got our dog from has cats called Pip, Lizzie, Hazel, Rex, Molly and Tilly.

Surely no coincidence.
