Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you want to hear more from Markey, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

Lynda definitely has Main Character Syndrome!

SisterTeatime · 05/09/2025 13:30

Haven’t listened to yesterday’s yet, but although I sympathised with David and Ruth (I love David’s character) it struck me how defensive they were. Stella may have been a bit overbearing, but her defining characteristic when it comes to farming is enthusiasm. I think they reacted like that because they are scared of upsetting Pip.

IRL Stella would not see anything in Pip! She is hardworking and that’s her only redeeming feature AFAIAC.

Re Bridge Farm, although I agree in principle that redundancy was a stupid storyline, the fact that they needed Adam in the dairy doesn’t mean they shouldn’t have got rid of Clarrie, just that Adam, their employee, was needed in the dairy that day, as Helen was elsewhere. They may not be Mensa material but they do know how a rota works.

TheCrasher · 05/09/2025 14:43

The successions of various farms or businesses could be a feature before long:
Brookfield, Bridge Farm, Home Farm, Lower Loxley.

Meanwhile there are 7 people in the Beechwood house, all getting along quietly, and Chris settling in at Fallon's.

So why are we getting the Turkey Teeth and Markey storylines?

SaffyRosie · 05/09/2025 15:59

Did Lawrence mispronounce rarebit as rabbit?

TottersBlankly · 05/09/2025 16:02

I know this sounds heavy handed but The Archers is the successions of various farms or businesses - namely, those you’ve listed. Archers’ land. That’s the only thing that matters in the ongoing story.

SaffyRosie · 05/09/2025 16:08

Lynda is a bully.

Yes to the Beechwood 7! That is SUCH a promising storyline and I can't believe we're not getting to hear the Clash of Titans (Natasha and Helen obviously, what with Tom being such a wet lettuce).

It's an old-fashioned variant.

It's an old-fashioned variant.

Rabbit was first used in 1725 and Rarebit in 1781, so neither is exactly modern.

TheCrasher · 05/09/2025 18:00

Welsh rarebit - Wikipedia

I'd love to hear a bit of conflict as Beechwood. The Helen and Natasha actors are good.

David and Ruth's position will be tricky if Stella starts sticking her beak in.

Gonners · 05/09/2025 18:39

If Stella starts interfering at Brookfield, David will probably go into full "Get orf my land!" mode. This would be a shame for the listeners ... but, on the other hand, if she takes Pip with her ...

She wouldn't though, would she?

DeanElderberry · 05/09/2025 18:50

It will be wonderful if Dopey Dave just once rises to heights of genius and manages to get rid of Stella, Ruth AND Rosie.

Josh for the win.

edited, obviously I mean to say Stella and Pip, but now I see it written down - Ruth as well?

Bruisername · 05/09/2025 18:57

Tbh I would love Josh to take over Brookfield just to piss Pip off

i’d be a bit concerned about my dd having an older girlfriend who is now unemployed and doesn’t seem in a hurry to find another role

And how is she paying them rent?

Abra1t · 05/09/2025 19:13

How does Kate not know who Amber is?
As her BIL (albeit ex) is the son of Susan and Neil, who’ve had run-ins with their grandson’s fiancée.

janeandmarysmum · 05/09/2025 19:14

Ohhhh Kate, don't hold back. Please!!

TottersBlankly · 05/09/2025 19:27

How is Stella paying her rent?

Hasn’t it only been a couple of weeks since she left Home Farm? Presumably she pays rent monthly?

And she is after all a professional farm manager, who I assume commanded a professional salary. Other than rent she can’t have been spending much, since she rarely stopped working and wouldn’t have had much call for fancy clothes or restaurants - and any recent holiday would have had to be child friendly. So even if she hasn’t been squirrelling money away to eventually buy some land of her own, she probably has a modest safety net.

(At least, that’s how I see it. The SWs might have an entirely different idea.)

TottersBlankly · 05/09/2025 19:39

Amber’s going to write a stinking review of Spiritual Home, out of indignant loyalty to her fiancé, but newly reconstructed George will be mortified at this turn of events. He doesn’t want all of Ambridge hating him (or Emma) when he gets out, and he’s had time to acknowledge the wrong he tried to do to Alice, and maybe the consequences for everyone connected to her.

First official falling out …

Bruisername · 05/09/2025 19:48

Oh I’m sure Stella has some savings but she doesn’t seem overly concerned about her current status

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 05/09/2025 20:05

Stella walked out of her job at Home Farm on 8th August.

Gonners · 05/09/2025 20:12

Is Stella still sharing Wossname Cottage on the Brookfield land (scarily close to wherever Pip lives) with whoever it was ... Hannah, perhaps? If so, I expect Pip will pressure her to move in with her and Rosie (I think she's already "suggested" it, to a less-than-enthusiastic response.) The prospect of this fate worse than death would concentrate the mind wonderfully ... wasabi farming in Japan, anyone?

TheCrasher · 05/09/2025 20:19

@Gonners , Stella lives in the Brookfield Boongah-Lo with Hannah.

Gonners · 05/09/2025 20:58

Thanks for confirming that! You'd think they'd have given it a name, wouldn't you? Dunmilkin' would be nice.

Trivium4all · 05/09/2025 22:08

I'm still confused as to whether we're supposed to see Amber as a caricature of all that is awful (which she is), or somehow take her seriously and commiserate with her. I loathe Kate, but go Kate!

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 05/09/2025 22:36

Listening on catch up. So far bloody Amber, Zainab and Snell.

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 05/09/2025 22:43

Go Kate !
