Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you want to hear more from Markey, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

It might be interesting to list the sane/non-dim/not unpleasant characters in Ambridge. Nobody immediately springs to mind ... Jakob, perhaps? Though he does tolerate Kate!

echt · 29/08/2025 22:39

The Adam/Brian/Pat kerfuffle is presumably so Brain can kick Adam in the balls when he hands the farm to Alice with nary a backward glance.

TottersBlankly · 29/08/2025 22:55

Inevitably …

JanFebAndOnwards · 29/08/2025 23:32

George still fancies Fallon, that’s his motivation here.

BeatriceBatchelor · 30/08/2025 03:57

I think Pat has been very rude to Adam.

JanFebAndOnwards · 30/08/2025 07:54

Yes Pat is being uncharacteristically rude. Plot driven not character driven writing this week for her.

SaffyRosie · 30/08/2025 09:09

Would they really put Marley and the other man in the same prison as the snitch? Seems unlikely. Why didn't Fallon say that. Ses obvious to me .

George will get shived by a mate of Marky's and there will be even more falling out between the various families.

Regarding Linda's hair colour. I very much doubt a good hairdresser/colourist would suggest a client goes from ash based highlights (cooled toned) to caramel (warm toned). These colours suit very different skin tones. Of course Linda's ash could have been totally inappropriate for her and Chelsea is steering her towards a colour that suits her skin much more. Frankly I don't think that is the case, just poorly researched script writing.

And why does Adam sound so angry all the time. Always aggressive loud voice, I find him a very unpleasant character.

MinnieBaldock · 30/08/2025 09:13

I think Adam should tell Brian to get a new manager or offer him the job.
I know Brian wants Alice but to be fair she will not know what to do and I can't she her planting and mowing and in the end it will be too much and she will start drinking again because she can't take the pressure, then Brian will he up the Am without a paddle as Adam would have been furious that Brian gave Alice the job in the first place. Also why if he wants Alice dosnt Brian get her to help him instead of Adam. I can see Pats point but it's Adam she should have a go at not Brian

JudyCoolibar · 30/08/2025 09:15

TottersBlankly · 28/08/2025 19:50

Nah … I think the very nearly ancient Snells being demonstrably in love is kinda cool and makes tolerable listening. We’ll very soon have the next lot of teens (Henry! Keira!) snogging other teens’ faces off - so I don’t mind a bit of balance.

I applauded Emma’s justifiable rage in The Bull!

Why justifiable? I wanted Kenton and the others to point out fairly forcefully to Emma that they were perfectly entitled to consider their own safety, and to put it ahead of that of her criminal son.

Would Alice even want to do it? She seems happy at the Stables and it works reasonably well with looking after Marthurrr. Why give that up in favour of all the stresses and strains of working with Brian? And why should she let Lilian down?

Bruisername · 30/08/2025 09:24

It seems foolish to give Alice a high pressure job when she struggles to control her alcoholism tbh

TottersBlankly · 30/08/2025 09:41

But Alice clearly was interested, theoretically. And Chris was excited by the idea. I can very clearly see a story where that would bring the two of them back together - and they’d probably make a really stupendous team; as good as Brian and Jenny were at running the farm and everything that went with it.

As a matter of fairness I’d much rather they agreed to apprentice themselves to Adam for, say seven years - by which time he might be glad to retire from full time farming and they could take over properly.

Gonners · 30/08/2025 09:56

As a matter of fairness I’d much rather they agreed to apprentice themselves to Adam ....

Fairness to whom? Not to the listeners - at least, not to this one! I'd like to hear Adam being pushed into a bottomless pit, whining languidly as he fell, until he was out of earshot.

Brefugee · 30/08/2025 10:36

Gonners · 29/08/2025 19:37

And it's Adam Pat needs to discipline, not Brian.

Absolutely! (Though where's the fun in that?) And she'd already tried that approach, without success. If anyone else could be bullied into working for her, bone-idle languorous Adam would have got the push long ago.

Pat needs to, in the modern parlance, "use her words" to Adam.

tbh i think she feels kindly towards Adam - she clearly thinks Brian likes him least of all the children - and was telling Brian in order to give Adam a slightly easier ride.

I loved that bit at the end "am i the pain in the neck in this scenario"

Brefugee · 30/08/2025 10:37

BeatriceBatchelor · 30/08/2025 03:57

I think Pat has been very rude to Adam.

she's his boss. She has been too forbearing/patient, tbh. He is there to work. Plenty of bosses in her position would have given a final warning, fired him... at the least made him leave his phone in the office.

SisterTeatime · 30/08/2025 14:41

I may be the only listener who actually likes Adam. But if he works for Bridge Farm, he works for Bridge Farm. I doubt he’d think it would be okay for Susan to abandon the dairy to go and help out Neil at Berrow or something, but he clearly thinks he can potter in and out of work as he likes! Pat has been pretty patient IMO.

I don’t blame Emma for being angry with Kenton. I do think she is silly to shout about it in the pub itself.

TheCrasher · 30/08/2025 15:31

I like Adam too, @SisterTeatime . He's not likeable but his character is generally consistent, and there's the dynamic of him not being an Aldridge.
I used to like Debbie but she's no longer around.
I like Kate and Alice more, but I've known them since they were born.

Ambridge · 31/08/2025 08:45

I happened to have Radio 4 Extra on in the car the other day and someone was emoting in a 19thc drama (recorded in 1995). I thought 'hmmm…..that sounds like Adam'. And indeed it was - he was a sergeant in Prosper Mérimée's Mateo Falcone, set in rural Corsica. Much more dynamic than usual - well, he was 30 years younger, I suppose - but with a telltale languid edge that gave him away.

TottersBlankly · 31/08/2025 09:43

Oooooh, languid edge is superb!

MêmePasPeur · 31/08/2025 11:56

Catching up… where is Harrison?

TottersBlankly · 31/08/2025 12:12

Catching up… where is Harrison?

Harrison was sent on a secret police surveillance mission (in Yorkshire?) so that he could have a part in Corrie.

We’d though he would be deaded, as it sounded as if it would be impossible for him to attempt a 3 hour drive each way back to Ambridge, but he’s a tough cookie and has managed it once since mid-February.

From whence Amber came.

Gonners · 31/08/2025 14:44

A shame they can't meet there and settle down: they'd make a wonderful couple.
