Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you want to hear more from Markey, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

It would be really clunky writing to have Fallon almost drown, have a random wild swim where she gets over her fear but some other character drowns

RegimentalSturgeon · 20/08/2025 22:17

That it would undoubtedly be very clunky writing doesn’t make it less likely, surely?

echt · 20/08/2025 22:26

I don't get the golfing. Chelsea has no money yet she's on a golf course, one that has a dress code, so presumably private. Did Martyn pay for them?

IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle · 20/08/2025 22:45

I'll be gutted if they drown Jazzer. One of the few likeable characters.

Well we're all different but he makes my flesh crawl. I can't stand listening to him and the laugh is off the scale repulsive.

Presumably.

Would it be too much to hope that successful businessman Martyn might say to Chelsea why are you wasting your talent in these crappy jobs?

MinnieBaldock · 21/08/2025 04:39

I think Tracy looks exactly like the actress who plays her. I don't know what she sees in Jazzer, I find him lazy and he leaves his undercrackers all over the bedroom floor yuk!.

JoelenesParrot · 21/08/2025 07:57

I hope Martyn doesn’t take a shine to Chels but IRL we know that’s exactly what would happen…

TottersBlankly · 21/08/2025 08:23

At the moment Martyn seems to want mothering. 😄 And also the feeling of being in the midst of harmonious family life.

RegimentalSturgeon · 21/08/2025 09:08

No one IRL could possibly take a shine to that gobby, adenoidal baggage.

TheCrasher · 21/08/2025 09:44

Martyn needs smothering.

I ❤Chelsea.

DeanElderberry · 21/08/2025 09:57

I like Tracey and Jazzer, but if they murder Tracey it will free him up to marry Fallon and they can take over the Bull.

Why is everyone going on and on and on about swimming in a lake as though it is in some way remarkable? I live near a lake and lots of people swim in it, some of them all year round.

Bruisername · 21/08/2025 10:01

I suppose if you didn’t live near a lake then you would?

in ambridge every ‘new’ thing is amazing though - and everyone is always good at it

how many more hints do we need that Zainab is going to be the saviour of the cricket team and thus puts Lynda’s old dude in his place

DeanElderberry · 21/08/2025 10:06

If Ambridge was in the real world, wild swimming in Arkwright Lake would have become a thing in the last decade and we'd have had at least one 'funny' story about a dry robe.

it would be absolutely brilliant if Martyn spotted her go-gettedness and decided to back her in a salon venture. I would very much like that. Although then, of course, that family have 2 people beholden to him for jobs.

I really like the idea of 2 young women concentrating on positivity and doing things to make themselves happy.

If they ded someone i want it to be Fallon, her moping is annoying me. (actually, can't it be Joy. And Rochelle.) And i wonder if they are leading us up a false path, tracy does have a twinge which is just that. But Neil is really ill and leaves us permanently. That would make me sad, but is plausible.

Brad is adorable. I want to hug him. But i wouldn't because he doesn't like that.

TheCrasher · 21/08/2025 10:07

I used to live near a lake and I didn't swim in it once. It didn't cross my mind. It was the tourists did.

Zainab is bound to be good at cricket.

Kirsty probably has a dry robe.

My first smile today. ❤

Brefugee · 21/08/2025 10:10

Kirsty does "wild swimming" though. I would have thought Kate might indulge now and again?

I have a lot of friends who do it, and where i live there are a lot of lakes formed from old quarries, that is where EVERYONE goes to swim as soon as the weather allows them to open for the season.

It's just a "plot device" (hahahaha) to get us thinking about Fallon and the crash and miscarriage. If they preggers her up i am going to be Very Cross Indeed.

TheCrasher · 21/08/2025 10:13

She does, that's why she has a dry robe.

WitcheryDivine · 21/08/2025 10:32

I’m back! My phone has been playing up and effectively banned me from MN.

obviously far too late to say how much I enjoyed Brad finding a backbone the other day?

TheCrasher · 21/08/2025 10:33

Not at all @WitcheryDivine . Glad to hear your phone is OK now.

Gonners · 21/08/2025 10:35

Does anyone dislike Brad? He seems to be about the only character who is universally liked. (For the avoidance of misunderstanding, I like him too!)

Surely not! Brad has become my favourite character.

TheCrasher · 21/08/2025 10:43

He's lovely. I like most of the characters. Even the unlikeable ones add something.
There are ones I'd prefer to never have even heard from at all, and on top of that list is Rochelle.

Amber gets to stay just because of her giving her future MIL the perfect birthday present.

TheCrasher · 21/08/2025 10:50

By unlikeable, I mean Helen and JustAnIdiot . Not Pip, Paul, Dane, Laurence (sp?),...

In Pip's defence, we do get Stella and Fat Rosie. Fat Rosie is going to be as ghastly as the Widderbeth, isn't she. only with more flab and foul language.

JoelenesParrot · 21/08/2025 11:15

Brad is generally fine but I am still recovering from the GG scene when he was a comedy bell-boy and mixed up the luggage when Fallon had sex toys and a Maid Marion outfit in her suitcase. That was what was known as a low point.

TheCrasher · 21/08/2025 11:20

It was. Blame the SW not Brad or Fallon.
