Paying for podcasts

Does anyone here actually pay for a podcast?
if so - which one and is it worth it,

I am so tempted to pay for the rest is entertainment, but I balk at £79.99 a year! Which is what I pay for audible, but get 24 books for that!

I’d rather have ads than pay, and I’d rather not listen at all if that isn’t an option. I find podcasts mildly diverting but not at a cost.

Yes, I pay for Mysterious Universe, but you get no ads, an extended main episode and a whole extra episode every week, as well as access to about 15 years' worth of back episodes. So I feel like it's worth it to me.

HollyhockDays · 16/07/2025 13:20

No. I skip through the adverts anyway.

Thanks
also - had never heard of mysterious universe! Great shout, have enjoyed what I have listened to.

I was thinking the exact best. If you listen to a couple of podcast you would end up paying roughly the same as Netflix!

Besides BBC Sounds I use Podbean - I'm not inclined to pay for podcasts ATM although I listen to about 2hrs every day on my daily dog walk mainly. I also occasionally use the Podcast Addict, Podomatic and Podcast Go apps.

I pay for maiden mother matriarch with Louise Perry. I love it

I pay for Real Life Survival stories and Swindled. But these are something like £1 or £2 per month so worth it to get no ads, the odd bonus episode etc. I don’t mind the ads on podcasts I am listening to while commuting or walking as I can skip. But some podcasts I like to fall asleep to and the ads can be very intrusive because they are louder than the podcast and very very “jangling” and not in keeping with the podcast. Unexplained is like this - almost hypnotic in tone but then halfway through at top volume there will be 4 incredibly loud adverts for other (American) podcasts with shouty presenters which will wake me up 😢

OP - do you get 2 Audible credits per month?

reallyalurker · 09/08/2025 23:05

I pay for the history podcast Rex Factor, £1.40 a month, and it's definitely worth it to me to be without ads and get their additional content for subscribers.

I pay. I listen to many niche ones where the host is genuinely interested in the topic and puts in a lot of effort (and cost) for the love of the area. It's a small one - usually £5 - but every bit helps.

Spend around £50 per month on this.

Which ones? I would be interested to know?

I paid for TRIE to catch up on bonus content for one month only. Covered a period I was travelling. Was nice not to have the adverts but that’s not enough to consider paying. I might do the same, 1 month of TRIP, when I’m next travelling.
