We usually listen to Cabin Pressure on our summer holidays but this year the journey to our holiday will be longer than the entire series. Can you suggest a show with a similar vibe that we can download?

Andy Hamilton’s Old Harry’s Game and Revolting People.

Clare in the Community?

Figcherry · 06/07/2025 07:27

I love listening to David Sedaris.

Hut 33, Reluctant Persuaders .

John Finnemore’s Souvenir Programme - same writer. And there’s currently 9 series to get through.

Im going to watch the recording of a series 10 episode next week!

Bleak Expectations

In over 60 years of radio listening I’m not sure I’ve heard anything that adequately compares to Cabin Pressure.

Have you listened to Conversations From a Long Marriage? It’s not hilarious, more wryly humorous, and there are only two speaking characters - but it’s well written, brilliantly performed and witty, so absorbing enough for at least part of a long journey.

We liked Welcome To Our Village, Please Invade Carefully. Less laugh out loud than CP, but had us smiling.

Agree that there is nothing equal to Cabin Pressure!

IsItAllRubbish · 06/07/2025 14:33

Some interesting suggestions, although I agree nothing compares!!

thanks :)

I love Fags, Mags and Bags but would think it's not for everyone.

I like Ladies of Leisure but probably would be boring for kids - sort of Keeping up Appearances/ Fawlty Towers letter exchange with a lot of middle class passive aggression about recipes & soft furnishings - Prunella Scales & Patricia Routledge.

Also Charles Paris mysteries but may be too much death & alcoholism for kids depending on their age.

BunnyRuddington · 11/07/2025 07:43

I agree that nothing quite compares to Cabin Pressure but I do live listening to David Sedaris.

No kids so nothing to worry about there!

The Andy Hamilton ones are a great shout, as is JF’s souvenir program, JF’s double acts ( the queen Victoria one is hysterical), hut 33, welcome to our village please invade carefully and bleak expectations. Maybe also that Mitchell & Webb sound, the old Swedish winter, The Island (dessert island disks meets lord of the flies with Steven mangan, very funny), warhorses of letters (if you can get it), maybe POV for modern sketch show, Elvenquest is fun if you don’t mind a bit of fantasy parody. Bear in mind JF also wrote for the pre cabin pressure now show and dead ringers so you might enjoy those too.

If you can find it, Gloomsbury, a pastiche of the Bloomsbury set, is very funny.

And while I'm mentioning the work of Miriam Margolyes, Charlotte and Lillian is also funny.

Dead ringers is on at the moment, I always look forward to a new series.
I also listen to Ed Reardons week.
The last episode of Clare in the community is epic!
Cabin Pressire was the tops.

Some great shows on here. I loved that show as well - especially the computer!
