Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Over to you!

@Horticula Agree completely.Wasnt he hiring out farm machinery? Does he still have the hens 😀

JudyCoolibar · 14/05/2025 16:05

Didn't Josh have rather an interesting and sad conversation with someone about how he loved his girlfriend but she had no intention of anything permanent with him? I thought it was quite weird how that never went anywhere, and we never hear mention of him and his girlfriend nowadays.

I previously mentioned that I wouldn’t mind hearing from Pip if it meant not hearing from Joy or Rochelle. I feel I may have been hasty. Her acting is atrocious. And she’s obsessed with Rosie in the most irritating way

I generally struggle to listen to Pip (and the Pip/Stella romance scenes are excruciating), however, after months and months of Joy/Rochelle/Lynda/The Maliks I actually enjoyed listening to David and Pip. Boring -yes; bad actress - definitely; but a breath of fresh air after Rochelle’s sulking and Joy’s wailing about being a bad mother.

Tony was right to clamp down on Henry’s speculation re Peggy’s will and a potential inheritance- very unattractive in a child. Lilian shouldn’t have undermined him like that.

Another one in team Tony here. It really is deeply unattractive how the younger generation are busy working out how to spend Peggy's money within a few days of her death.

WitcheryDivine · 14/05/2025 16:21

I think Rex is the new Roy.

I was wondering whether Pip might decide she wants a second child and ask Rex to be a sperm donor. That would tie him to the Archers and give him a sort of reason to hang around. I did laugh at his line about being a weird man who lives on a boat (I paraphrase).

KnittedFerret · 14/05/2025 16:56

I liked the detail of Henry being encouraged to spend an inheritance that may not exist.

That would be good, the children would be simultaneously siblings AND first cousins. Take that, Grundys!

KnittedFerret · 14/05/2025 17:22

@JudyCoolibar , Yes, but it was with his odious sister, who as The World's First Mother and The World's First Lesbian, put him firmly back in his box. After all, what could Josh know.

Haha I did think that… quite an unusual set up outside of Ambridge (I hope)

KnittedFerret · 14/05/2025 17:56

@WitcheryDivine , it is probably more common than you think.

Not that I know anything about these things but presumably Pip is bisexual? After all she had a thing with Toby and at least one other man, so must be attracted to men too.
I have a gay family member but he was never ever attracted to girls or women, so if pip was lesbian presumably she would always have been attracted to females. That's why it was a silly story as there was never a single hint that she was anything but straight until it suddenly came out of the blue.

Eastie77Returns · 14/05/2025 19:19

Are there a few zeros accidentally missing from Peggy’s gift?!!

onceuponatimeinneverland · 14/05/2025 19:19

To quote Sherlock - the game is afoot!

That's pretty bloody quick for an inheritance divvy up

Eastie77Returns · 14/05/2025 19:19

Oh snap, Brian had the same thought as me😂

WombatCowgirl · 14/05/2025 19:20

Pip's suppressed chuckle and way of turning every conversation to the privilege of breathing the same air as her child drive me to drink! Maybe Rex's pain will lead him to join Rochelle in witness protection after she snitches on Saskia's gang? Anyone else think of the Levellers when Rex said he was a boatman?

onceuponatimeinneverland · 14/05/2025 19:20

They might be the cash bequests, with property/ shares etc being left to someone else

Or she had nowt

Or left bulk to cats protection.

WombatCowgirl · 14/05/2025 19:22

Paws crossed for the cats.

onceuponatimeinneverland · 14/05/2025 19:22

See it's on BBC sounds already, which must be a record!

Eastie77Returns · 14/05/2025 19:23

I wonder if 278 has some kind of special meaning. A random amount to leave in a will!

The disappointment in Helen’s voice and the entitled, barely suppressed fury we can expect from Tom, Kate etc will be wonderful.

Horticula · 14/05/2025 19:26

Lalgarh · 14/05/2025 19:19

Of course it is.
Unless it's a minuscule estate( perhaps it actually is?) then you'd have to obtain probate first before distribution of the estate. Plus funeral expenses come from the estate before distribution and the funeral hasn't even taken place so they won't have had the final bill from the funeral directors yet, so there would be no way of knowing down to the penny what's available for distribution.
Yet again a totally ridiculous scenario showing the SW have no clue about life. I can't believe none of them have had to deal with an estate of someone who's died.

OverArmourer · 14/05/2025 19:35

Horticula · 14/05/2025 16:00

The SW need to develop Josh Archer's character instead of leaving him fading in the background. He's 27 years old, time to be getting into a proper self-supporting career instead of doing bits and bobs of whatever he does these days. Also didn't he have a girlfriend at one point? What's happened with her? I'd be much more interested in some stories related to him rather than bloody boring Joy whose name should really be Tedium. Or even some discussions between Ruth and David about all their children's lives and how they're doing and what they're planning for their futures etc, you know, like actual parents of adult children do.

So many of the men seem to have multiple piecemeal jobs, which I get might be the case in the current climate and a farming community, but it’s so many of them.

Cantsleepdontsleep · 14/05/2025 19:35

or she’s left it all to Kate for looking after her in her last few years at home…..

DeanElderberry · 14/05/2025 19:42

I suppose she could have given the undertaker £10,000, instructions on the funeral and a request to hand any surplus over to the home for deserving cats, leaving a tiny estate (5 or 6 grand I guess) to be divided between the vultures. Henry was sweet and genuine, and I'm glad for him.

DeanElderberry · 14/05/2025 19:43

Will Johnny come home for the funeral?
