Suggestions for an alternative to R4 Today please

Morning!

As someone who tunes into R4 throughout the day, I’m ready for a change with the new lineup of presenters and Mishal's departure. This morning’s show with Anmol and Emma again struck a balance between being overly loud and surprisingly dull.

So, where can I go that will be informative, nuanced, well-balanced and fun without the mock thundering but incisive political debate instead?

Thanks

It's only short, but Politics at Jack and Sam's is an excellent primer on the day ahead on Westminster.

Well if you just want to switch on the radio for rolling news I'd suggest the World Service. Depending on the time of day (and I usually listen to Today so I'm not sure of that slot) it's my go to for news after R4 and it's very interesting to get the different, more global, perspective.

I converted to Times Radio although the adverts are annoying.

Times Radio especially the morning show. Sad that Matt Chorley left and the 10-1pm slot is now poor. Gave up on Radio 4. I also listen to the podcast Jack and Sam. After the morning show on Times Radio I now listen to podcasts.

I’ve started the day with the Today programme for nearly 50 years 🤦🏻‍♀️
Just the last few months I’ve started listening to Radio 3. I really like both Emma and Amol, Justin et al but it’s just too much.
I do listen to the Newsagents, Trip, Trip USA, Americast, 358 and the Today programme podcasts though.

No suggestions, but if Emma could stop saying "good to be with you" every hour I'd be a much happier woman 😁

I think Emma treats it as a show where there is more audience participation than there is (or needs to be). I do wish Mishal hadn’t left.

I got rather hooked on LBC, but the morning presenter Nick Ferrari can be annoying at times, but the rest of the day up until 4pm is balanced.

Times Radio has more or less replaced Radio 4 for me.

An ex radio 4 addict but I have made the move to times radio. I love Jane and Fi.

I'll probably stay with R4 but am sad to see MH go.
I'm not keen on AR, EB is 'OK but', I like NR and JW.
I find it too much to listen to but OK as background noise.

DGPP · 19/12/2024 20:16

I can’t give up the Today programme, it’s still the best one for making sure I’m across politics and news. Times radio is ok but comes second in my view

WhoppingBigBackside · 19/12/2024 20:28

I've been listening for decades, and love parts of it.
