Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to have a moribund camper van parked indefinitely outside your home, or other unusual views.

Helen Baxendale's accent was terrible. English born Jane Leeve's accent as Daphne Moon in Frasier was terrible too.

They were both well into Dick van Dyke's fake accent in Mary Poppins territory.

@BeatriceBatchelor - sorry, I wasn't implying my name is a pun. I mean I love a good "dad joke", and terrible puns are a mainstay of such jokes. I try to torture my daughter with them as much as I can!

I really agree with PP that a scam SL with an Ambridge resident eg Clarrie, or Pat say, as the vic would have been so much stronger and effective as a PSA. Scammers on the phone are so plausible and the fall-out is devastating. It would have really resonated in a way that the duping of these Americans/faux Americans does not.

Helen falling for a fake US Marine would have have been great too. I would have enjoyed her twittering on to Kirsty about how he is going to call her from a war-zone tonight once the boys are in bed.

Are we forgetting the Rewilding 'interactive video' that so charmed Scrooge Justin? Will that scam be uncovered this week?
I don't follow spoilers or read RT so no idea if there are any hints of this. Just seems like something waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Is anyone else wondering if this very Ambridge specific scam might be linked to George & his dodgy prison mates in some way? Or if the drone they keep droning on about might get used to smuggle drugs into prison (Brad as very naive and unwitting stodge)
I agree a more standard phone scam would be a better PSA, I've never heard of fake holiday cottage bookings - surely any reputable site would want to remove fakes ASAP or their online reputation would be ruined - not sure why no one has got on X to warn people off Borsertshire Bookings.com yet

I’m with Chuck tbh - would prefer a swanky hotel in London than a barn in November. Perhaps Brookfield will decide to turn the barn into a youth hostel.

and another new person - Joel. I would like the statistics on occupancy of holiday cottages in November because this sudden influx of visitors seems unlikely. Jim has had the only reasonable reaction tbh but undone by his ‘guilt’ and bizarre behaviour.

scam week is clearly about scamming the listeners. Far too many minutes this week spent on strangers tbh. If we end up with romance between Joel and Ellie then we’ve definitely been scammed

Prisoners do not have access to the internet, so if George is involved in the holiday cottage scam there would have to be some horribly convoluted and unrealistic SL to explain it. And crass though the scam SL is, it still seems a tad too sophisticated for the likes of Baseball. I imagine his criminality takes a more direct form.

(In some prisons it is possible to send emails to prisoners but the staff then print them out and hand them to the prisoner and the prisoner is not able to reply by email.)

Whatever the SWs are on, I want some. how lovely to live in a fantasyland where Justin gets visited by three 'ghosts' and temporarily finds a heart, and random complete strangers are welcomed into homes with open arms, not once, not twice, but three times so far! The SWs must live in Fairyland. Give me strength!
