Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd love to have a moribund camper van parked indefinitely outside your home, or other unusual views.

There are 300,000,000 or so American accents; are you sure you know what all of them sound like?

Chuck is being played by an American. I expect he does know what his accent is.

On You and Yours today someone phoned in about a booking.com scam, the advisor even said there is a current story about that sort of experience on the Archers.

My house often gets mistaken for a holiday let about 1/2 mile down the road (same house number). Sensibly we keep the front door locked (and I'm pretty certain that Jakob would be ultra-cautious.

The SW have been scammed into paying for these new actors, when they could have weaved a believable scam story into existing plots using existing actors.

It annoys me enormously when they have non-Ambridge characters appearing for single episodes, it's taken long enough to tell the proper characters voices apart, without having both a Jolene and an Azra sound-alike in consecutive episodes.

Perhaps the actors are PAYING to fulfil their lifelong ambition of a bit-part in the Archers!

Bloody Kate what a cheek, would you reallý in real life let stangers stay in your boyfriend's house without asking him first, not even asking him but thinking you can in the first place. Jakob should finish with her.

That's what I think as well..she has so many red flags anyway..she knows Jakob is sensitive and private and she goes and does that. She's controlling, and selfish

But it’s exactly her openness to new experiences, and her ability to be confidently spontaneous that Jakob loves about her.

Or at least, it has been up to now.

I might feel differently about her confident spontaneity when it comes to offering my house to a pair of total strangers, leaving me in a yurt, in November.

The thing is, admiring someone being confident and spontaneous is one thing, but them expecting you to to sleep on a futon in a yurt in November in England while total strangers occupy your house is going a bit far.

gosh I’m so glad to hear about IP addresses and stuff - amazing what you can learn. But part of the PSA seems to be that there’s no point contacting the police.

I’m clearly an arsehole because I’m pretty shocked that there’s more than one person that would put up a stranger like that. Heating the barn must be costly as well. And putting people in their 70s ina barn with strangers? and why do they all have complicated back stories that means they can’t leave ambridge? Its like hotel California

I still don't think I've seen anyone offer a theory as to why Ellie has dragged her teen daughters to Ambridge for a week. Based on what we've heard, I wonder if either it's a marriage breakdown and she's giving husband the week to clear out or she's got building work that makes her house inaccessible. Any better theories?

I can almost believe a woman with two teenagers escaping something at home and with no money might sleep in the barn. I cannot believe two Americans in their 70s on holiday would do it. They'd find a b&b somewhere else it's hardly peak season.

It would explain why she's taken the teenagers out of school.

Not even slightly. Apart from one year when they reared geese instead, the Grundys have raised and sold turkeys every year this century at least, and I think they already were when Lowfield started in 1996.

Ross’s English girlfriend in Friends was played by the very English Helen Baxendale who was also in Cold Feet, unless she was overthinking it and trying to play what the American audience expected an English actress to sound like.
