Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Ben-meets-Zainab is on a par with Elizabeth-meets-Darcy, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @Bruisername for the title inspiration. She said God it's lame and that seemed to strike a chord with many, for some reason. Grin

I am terrified of wasps and live in fear of encountering a hornet, so that was a tricky episode. I hope that's the last we're going to hear of them, except for confirmation that they've been nuked. [shudder]

So what do we reckon - custodial or suspended sentence for George? Will Clarrie return from Great Yarmouth or will she realise that actually life as a carer for her (presumably disabled) sister is easier than the endless and thankless drudgery at Grange Farm? Will any more tables collapse at the Village Hall?

Over to you!

They have learned their lesson a bit, then. Good.

Eastie77Returns · 06/10/2024 15:30

Towards the end Alice very clearly said that the entire chain of events was triggered by her decision to get drunk and sit in the car.

I don’t think she was blaming George for everything but explaining how his actions after her poor decision had impacted her.

But she didn’t put that in the victim impact statement - she wasn’t reading that bit out and it only came as part of the discussion after

Hi! I have just started listening again after I stopped during lockdown and those monologues. Have listened to two omnibus editions so far. Got a lot to catch up on h upon, had no idea Jazzer and Tracey had married,or indeed Tom and Natasha! Feel a bit sorry for Will. Bit depressing how noth8ng ever changes for the Grundys.

Ah, I wasn’t listening closely and thought it was in the statement.

Bruisername · 06/10/2024 19:15

Kenton getting the kitten blues

nice that Lillian and Adam are close enough to Alice to ask if she is going to the sentencing 🙄

so we have a rude teen to counterbalance the freakishly mature Henry? But of course he is going to be extremely intelligent no doubt and go and do work experience at the vets. Oh and we have the city vs country stereotype 🙄

sounds like zainab and Mia would get on. What are they boycotting?

so mystery - where’s the other brother?

I need to fish the eyes out the back of my head after that episode. Wish I hadn’t bothered tonight!!!

TottersBlanklyTowardsImaginarySunlight · 06/10/2024 19:18

Am I allowed to call Lynda a racist xenophobic bitch?

Or not?

Hmm

(It doesn’t matter that she’s nice to brown people she already knows. She took against Khalil for no reason whatsoever.)

She’s going to be sorry when Salieri costs her thousands in vet bills by the end of the week …

TottersBlanklyTowardsImaginarySunlight · 06/10/2024 19:20

Nestle? (Does it produce canned drinks?)

What other brother??

Bruisername · 06/10/2024 19:27

He made a comment about his brothers cat I thought?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/10/2024 19:37

I don't think the word he used was brother; sounded to me like "my baba", but I don't know what that means..

Choccyp1g · 06/10/2024 19:37

I thought he said Baba, presumed he meant his grandmother.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/10/2024 19:38

The trouble with that would be that whoever it was "had a cat when he was a kid", so it can't have been Khalil's grandmother.

Choccyp1g · 06/10/2024 19:46

According to the internet, Baba means Dad in Urdu, which might make sense.

MerelyPlaying · 06/10/2024 19:50

I think Baba would mean dad or possibly grandad.

Changing topic slightly - did anyone else think that Jill sounds if she’s not in the studio? There was a different tone to her words, I wonder if she’s recording them separately at home and then they’re being added in.

I thought that was uncharacteristic of Linda, who is actually quite sound at heart, to appear to assume that someone with brown skin was a littering city-dweller who wouldn’t understand English.

It does indeed make sense. Thanks!

The standard "make Lynda a negative character" ploy applied, I suppose. When in doubt, have someone being nasty for no particular reason, and often Lynda is the one who gets landed with it.

AlanFranksDiary · 06/10/2024 19:54

Grandad is dada. Baba is dad.
Sher is tiger not lion.

Bruisername · 06/10/2024 19:56

Oh I misheard then. Yes Baba would be dad so perhaps makes more sense

yes I thought it was a bit odd of Lynda - I would have thought she would be pleased to see a young person interested in her animals.

Godesstobe · 06/10/2024 20:10

I have really taken against Khalil and Zainab.

Edited

The tiger in The Jungle Book (book not film) is called Shere Khan, which suddenly makes sense to me; I read that when I was five or so and simply accepted all the names as just, well, names. It had never occurred to me they might mean what the animal was!

Bruisername · 06/10/2024 20:22

there is nothing interesting about Azras kids because they’ve chosen to go down such a predictable route

TottersBlanklyTowardsImaginarySunlight · 06/10/2024 20:23

Aha!

Thanks @Bobblesock!

I found it improbable that she was so inept in dealing with him. So whoever the racist xenophobic bitch was, it clearly wasn’t Lynda.

And why the alarm over brother “running off”. He’s 16, for goodness sake!
