Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd have been delighted with a hand-painted squirrel tray for your 40th, as shown below, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

All I have to say about current storylines for now is that I want the George Alice crash stuff to come to a resolution, sooner rather than later, and I also want to hear very little indeed of Alistair, Denise and Paul maundering on. More of Jakob would be very welcome. His brother can come back any time too.

I now declare this thread open for business!

I don’t know why Helen doesn’t buy a place..she must be loaded selling 3 raspberry yogurts and a bit of blue cheese every week.

... and paying Kirsty £3.50 per month in rent.

MereDintofPandiculation · 22/08/2024 21:53

Why wouldn't she sell the house of doom and buy a house? Why is it always thought that single woman should live in 1-bed flats? Why would Kirsty not want a garden?

I was just giving an example of an option open to Kirsty that didn’t involve her living in a house share. I don’t think there’s a general assumption that single women must live in a 1-bed. It isn’t something I’ve heard before. I would have made the same suggestion if she were a male character.

It is possible to have a 1-bed flat with a garden.

All that said, Kirsty made it clear to Denise that she doesn’t like living alone so I agree with a PP that she will end up living with Jim and Alistair will eventually buy Roy’s house. Before that happens we will unfortunately have to put up with Denise wailing and complaining about being homeless or having to go back to living with John.

PedantScorner · 22/08/2024 22:32

@Bruisername , Kirsty owns the house.

Will had let No 1 for years having bought it with an inheritance but took out a mortgage to free up some money to invest in the tree surgery business.

JanglyBeads · 22/08/2024 22:40

I know who's Will's fled to for help and is bringing home to sample Clarrie's scones : Andrew Tate!

(OK parallel universe where the Messers Tate aren't currently being held in Rumania)

Fretfulagain · 22/08/2024 22:45

George is with Uncle Clive. There is going to be a lot of pearl clutching but has he turned over a new leaf?!
how old must he be the best part of 30 years since Susan’s incarceration.

WorriedRelative · 22/08/2024 23:07

Nah he's visited Uncle Keith, that's why Emma needs a sit down, because he nearly killed her.

Bruisername · 22/08/2024 23:11

Doesn’t Emma have a bad leg?

Fretfulagain · 22/08/2024 23:12

Oh I forgot about Keith! D’oh.

echt · 22/08/2024 23:14

Ahem.
The first place I bought in London was a one-bedroom flat with a garden. It was quite spacious as the bathroom and laundry space were in a proper cellar.

Now I think of it the bathroom had an avocado suite. Smile

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/08/2024 23:23

Perhaps:
Kirsty can sell the House of Evil (love it!) to Helen
Kirsty can then buy Willow Farm from Roy and take Hannah in as a lodger
Denise and Alistair could possibly buy Willow Cottage - or is Azra renting that? I've forgotten. Or, if Fallon and Harrison split up, Fallon could move back to The Bull, Harrison could leave Ambridge and Denistare could buy their house.

There's always the possibility of Will and George being driven out of Ambridge by a mob with flaming torches and Denistare could then buy No. 1 The Green.

Perhaps a collective of regulars could buy Home Farm from the mysterious and silent Gills, establish a commune there and make it the centre of village life again.

BrightYellowDaffodil · 22/08/2024 23:23

Maybe uncle Alf? Surely George would be too young to know the other two, whereas Alf has been around recently. And it would clear up whether Alf was really responsible for the money going missing from the church, or whether George was a wrong’un from an even earlier age than we thought…

WorriedRelative · 22/08/2024 23:25

TottersBlanklyIntoThePhysicGarden · 22/08/2024 19:21

Something Emma would particularly dislike …

Surely a bad seed Horrobin?

Keith

JanglyBeads · 22/08/2024 23:33

What did Keith do, I don't remember?

EBearhug · 22/08/2024 23:34

Denise and Alistair could possibly buy Willow Cottage - or is Azra renting that? I've forgotten.

Isn't she in Blossom Hill Cottage? Or is that Brian and Kate? Who is in the Dower House these days?

And why does no one mention Nightingale Farm any more, after Hayley was there with Mrs Antrobus? (To be fair, if it hadn't been mentioned uothread, I'd have forgotten, too.)

JanglyBeads · 22/08/2024 23:34

Gosh could this story have been planned out at least a decade ago when the church collection disappeared?!

JanglyBeads · 22/08/2024 23:34

Next we'll find out who stole the bunting!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/08/2024 23:39

Brian and Kate are in Bloody Hell Cottage (kudos to whoever came up with that one). I had also forgotten about Nightingale Farm. About time the silent owners did the decent thing and handed it back to someone whose voice is picked up by the microphones. Never forgiven the SWs for not getting Marjorie Antrobus to leave it to Hayley and Roy.

Dower House is Lilian and Justin, isn't it?

OP posts:
Bruisername · 22/08/2024 23:48

Azra moved onto the estate opposite Joy and Helen I thought?

so Helen buys the house with money from her parents which causes resentment from tom and then they give him the money to buy roys house (or is that the purpose of their holiday). Then wherever they are is rented out by Kirsty.

will and George move back and rent the house to denistare

EBearhug · 23/08/2024 00:11

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 22/08/2024 23:40

Dower House is Lilian and Justin, isn't it?

Oh yes. Where were Peggy (and Aunty's Chrus, then Kate) before the Laurels beckoned? Was that the Lodge?

You're right about Azra at Beechwood, @Bruisername

Do we know who is living in Keepers Cottage and its other half these days? I mean the ones where the Grundys and Kathy Perks used to live years back.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 23/08/2024 00:13

One of them is Tom, Natasha and The Twins.

OP posts:
RegimentalSturgeon · 23/08/2024 00:23

TnT and their spawn infest Kathy Perks’ place. Is that April Cottage? But, in anticipation of her going int long-term storage inside a polar bear, they were making significant changes to it.

WorriedRelative · 23/08/2024 08:24

JanglyBeads · 22/08/2024 23:33

What did Keith do, I don't remember?

Set fire to brookfield barn in order to intimidate David and Ruth who were due to give evidence against the shady people he had become involved with while trying to prop up his struggling used car business.

Emma would be particularly unhappy about Keith returning because she was nearly seriously hurt. I think she went into the barn because she thought George and Ben were playing in there.

He did go to prison and while he was in Clive was out and had an affair with his wife Donna.

Lemongrassandcamomile · 23/08/2024 08:32

If George doesn't go to prison, what would there be for him in Ambridge?

Who would employ him?

Would he be able to drink in the Bull?

Also, could he be charged with a motoring offence in connection with the accident? Would he just get points or could he lose his licence? Losing his licence would mean he couldn't drive farm vehicles, further reducing his employability.
