It looks as if all episodes are currently available. It's so, so funny. I've heard them all before but am currently enjoying working my way through them again. Miles Jupp is marvellous in it and of course he wrote the whole thing. Justin Edwards and everyone else in the cast also top notch. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01q9tb1/episodes/player?page=3

what is it about?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/07/2024 18:07

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/profiles/419yBLh4pfv6QCjqV9t6R8N/an-interview-with-miles-jupp This should help.

It's a sitcom, very well observed, with all the humour coming from characterisation and nice sharp dialogue. It's not split your sides funny, but I spend a lot of my time chuckling. The central figures are Damian Trench, who is a cookery writer, and his partner Anthony, who works in finance. They bicker a lot but their relationship is pretty strong. Other recurring characters are their builder, Damian's agent, Damian's mother and a TV producer who works with him on a series. Damian keeps a diary so some of the dialogue is Damian (Miles Jupp) reading his diary entry, and other scenes are acted, and every so often Damian gives a recipe. I particularly like those bits.

Thanks for this @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g . I love this series. Off to download it now.

@Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g

Are you a regular Sounds user. I absolutely hate it and struggle to use it.

I tend to listen to stuff when I am out running so it does need to be downloaded but even though I have subscribed it appears that I have to click on every single episode and download them individually and there is no obvious way to see which ones have actually downloaded.

Same with audiobooks on Sounds. I've just downloaded Long Island and have got to episode 10 then there are no more. I'm pretty sure that it isn't the end of the story and more episodes will be forthcoming, but there is nothing to indicate when/how many episodes there might be.

Is this just me? Am I doing it "wrong"?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 31/07/2024 18:47

I am a regular Sounds user but I don't download usually. I listen on my laptop while doing other things mostly.

Loved that series and just gone to BBC sounds to check it out. I am slightly horrified at how long ago it was broadcast!

BlueSmurfPantMan · 31/07/2024 18:59

Thanks for replying. I will persevere with the individual episode downloads.

newtlover · 31/07/2024 20:07

thanks for the heads up, I used to really enjoy this (daren't look to see when...)
I always thought Damian was Nigel Slater

FizzingAda · 31/07/2024 21:08

Thanks for that, I really enjoyed it first time around, so will download it.

Thanks for replying. I will persevere with the individual episode downloads.

You can listen to the next episode automatically if you are online. Go to My Sounds, click on the cog wheel for Settings, and the option is there.

Thanks @FizzingAda! At last.

A bit late to the party but I love it too. It got me through my last bout of covid, I binge listened to the lot. Miles Jupp is so talented.

Also loved his Boswell’s Life Of series. The Maria Callas one was hilarious.
