Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to hear more of Harrison's strange little moaning noises, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @OverArmour for the title suggestion!

Over to you.

It is NECESSARY to have one collar and two sleeves.

Incidentally when I Googled how to spell "fetal" - as, despite all those weekly spelling tests from the age of 5, I still can't spell - I stumbled across websites purporting to show well known celebrities who have FAS (which can apparently be diagnosed from something called 'FAS face').

A lot of the Internet is US English. I'd have gone for "foetal", but as long as it doesn't cause confusion, I don't suppose it matters.

A lot of medical stuff seems to have gone US. Edema for example

DeanElderberry · 24/06/2024 21:07

google does know both spellings and will return you results that use both. Though it isn't nearly as good as it used to be.

I remember “possesses possesses, 5 S’s”

and for occasion - two collars (c) one sock (s)

Egypt - Eg(g) whipped. That was my mother’s way of overcoming her particular difficulty with the word, and I’ve never been able to forget it

Godesstobe · 24/06/2024 21:18

It sounds as though George will have to give evidence in court under oath. That may be the moment he decides he cannot keep lying, although, as others have said, I hope we don't have to sit through a totally unrealistic scene where he breaks down and confesses all in the witness box.
I know not everyone shares my sympathy for George, but I really feel for him at the moment. It must be dawning on him that his deception is likely to be revealed and I think he must be starting to panic, especially as there is no one he can confide in.

MereDintofPandiculation · 24/06/2024 21:20

Was there an episode of TA tonight? Was it completely boring? No-one has said a word about it!

See above!

Gonners · 24/06/2024 21:28

@MereDintofPandiculation - Yes and yes.

I have sympathy for George in this situation as I think he "meant well", insofar as a Grundy ever means well.

Godesstobe · 24/06/2024 21:29

I was only listening with half an ear.

  • Harrison was able to discuss the loss of his "baby" with Chris without whimpering.
  • George discovered he will probably have to give evidence when Alice's case goes to court.
  • The woman who is buying Bartleby has already paid for him
  • Roy is not coming back. Oliver asked Lily to be his assistant until he can recruit someone permanent. Lily said she would think about it but she had been looking forward to her 'hot girl summer🤮
FiveShelties · 24/06/2024 22:14

I cannot listen to it, app says only available in UK!

TheUsualChaos · 24/06/2024 22:50

Yes he "meant well" driving Alice home, although I still stand by my opinion that he shouldn't have taken on himself to drive her in the first place, he should have called one of her immediate family and they could have come to pick her up. I have mustered up some sympathy for him however in that he must be feeling absolute panic, very alone and completely out of his depth. I think he will confess to someone in the village first rather than in the court.

I love Russian salad and often treat myself to a tub of similar stuff from the Polish section of our Tesco.

Can you play it through the website if the app won't work?

Try downloading it via BBC Sounds. You should then be able to play from your downloads. Works for me when outside UK.

FiveShelties · 25/06/2024 01:31

@EBearhug have tried via Website and it still says the same thing.

@PutThatDownNow I cannot download it either.

Many thanks for your suggestions. It is really strange I have been listening to it in NZ since 2003! Although with the 'quality' of the storylines in the last couple of years, perhaps they are doing me a favour.

I may try re-installing the App and see if that helps😀

FiveShelties · 25/06/2024 01:39

I can listen to Sunday's episode, which I listened to yesterday but cannot get Monday's so it seems that the episode is different in some way rather than my Sounds or the website.

My favourite mnemonic was Big Elephants Can't Always Use Small Exits

Fink · 25/06/2024 06:40

The not available outside the UK message does come up occasionally for me (when I'm travelling) on a variety of BBC programmes. It seems quite random which it applies to. I hope you're able to catch up soon.

OnlyFrench · 25/06/2024 06:47

Same problem here....might finally be able to wean myself off after forty years!

bluecomputerscreen · 25/06/2024 06:52

I had this issue with other stuff from sounds last night. might be a different issue as it's programmes that are usually available.

Over fifty years here - oh wow does that make me feel old. 😂

TottersBlanklyTowardsOblivion · 25/06/2024 07:01

Is there a strong cohort of NZ Archers listeners, @FiveShelties - or are you an isolated minority?

Bruisername · 25/06/2024 07:14

I couldn’t listen on sounds in UK

i was thinking that all the horrible George stuff was done to build up to this and so everyone would hate him and then they would make him nice George who loves his grandad Joe and bartleby - unlike the other men in the family who would quite happily sell their grandma

i feel George is a flawed character who has had terrible role models and not a great childhood. Deep down I don’t think he’s bad and he’s got himself into a really stupid situation which are going to have terrible consequences for him

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 25/06/2024 07:31

I had no issue listening via Sounds last night. I have this link saved and always start from here: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b006qpgr/episodes/player

I was using the app so maybe there was a problem. Not sure I can be bothered to listen. The synopsis upthread will do me!
