One of the most interesting drama series currently on Radio 4:

Ah great, thanks!
I do wish the BBC Sounds app would tell me when there's a new series of something I've previously listed to. Only just realised S3 of Broken Colours has been released.

Patcherdog · 06/01/2024 09:06

Thanks I've just subscribed x

chagrilly · 09/01/2024 07:53

Thanks for recommending this I'm really enjoying it! Even if I did accidentally start with series 1 episode 7 🤦🏻‍♀️

The bbc sounds app is annoying 🤣

You really need to get on board with the previous series chagrilly, they're really good.

More Darkness today, starting now.

Yes i stormed through the first two, loved them.

Finding the most recent series less engaging mainly down to me getting the two main characters mixed up all the time!

nauticant · 10/01/2024 20:19

Great!

I have the same problem with the current series. It's less tangible in a number of ways and the earlier two series were a more satisfying listen. I think I'll be on track by the next episode.

It does this for me if I click “subscribe”. E.g. TTOD popped up for me last week because I subscribed to series 1 I think.

I agree with PP that this series is harder as I find it hard to differentiate between the two main characters, also it jumps around in time a little and it took me awhile to figure out how to tell past from present.

i still really enjoy it though, love the concept.

does anyone else think the actress playing the doc sounds just like Rebecca Front?! I thought it was her for ages.

nauticant · 31/01/2024 15:02

For all of the annoyance caused by the confusion of which of the two male characters we were hearing, and which time period we were in, I did eventually get to grips with the last episode. That was very effective. It didn't give the listener any easy answers.

And now it's series 4. Starting next week, Tuesday afternoon.

Love this, thanks.

Just listened to episode 3. This is a very classy drama.

It was so good, wasn't it @nauticant , not an easy listen, but very well done.

I was a tad distracted by picturing Mhairi Black when Abi was speaking, she sounded a bit like her but younger.

nauticant · 17/02/2026 20:02

I was impressed. The story is going into much more interesting territory, especially including the ethical dilemmas, than I was expecting.

Agree - interesting to hear a different approach rather than more formulaic men in standard prison. Hopefully it'll mean there'll be another series.

nauticant · 24/02/2026 15:00

Blimey.

Today's episode was something else. Some of the best drama I've heard on Radio 4 in a long time.

I agree @nauticant , it really is very good. So much resonating with me with people no longer in my life, one thankfully and one sadly.

There's a Gwen Adshead and Eileen Horn series that started this morning at 11.45am

nauticant · 24/02/2026 15:23

Yes, I'm also listening to Unspeakable: Survival and Transformation After Trauma. It does make a good companion piece. Although the helicopter crash this morning was a rather traumatic listen.

That was such a good series, very well done.

nauticant · 04/03/2026 09:28

Definitely. The ending was very thought-provoking. It was probably my favourite of all the stories there've been so far.
