Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @OverArmour for the idea of making it clear in the title many of us are inveterate bickerers!

Now over to you, as we are about to eat and I won't hear tonight's offering till later ....

I think that's Miles saying he was actually there, that's how he knows the time

Yes, it seems that the medically qualified person certifying the death can take the time of death from somewhere there when it happened. But if the person died along the "Legal time of deat" is when they were found

A coroner's explantion of time of death - WARNING: GRAPHIC DESCRIPTIONS OF DEATHS An interesting article if you have the stomach for it.

I think someone has already asked, why didn’t she just pop the blasted card in the post? Next day delivery if concerned it wouldn’t get there in time.

There was no need to go back to the flat to hand it to him. Just as there was no need to meet him in a café, go to A&E with him after his collapse or attend his follow up appointments.

Because the scriptwriters all sat around one Friday evening after drinks and said let's create the most ridiculous storyline and this was the result.

I see they managed to weave in the answer to the wife/fiancee question😂

TheUsualChaos · 19/11/2023 22:32

Miles was there at the end it seems. I wonder if Bruce was too. Or was Rob telling the truth when he said his Dad had already said his final goodbyes. I'm imagining that a nurse or carer attending saw the signs that death was imminent and rang Miles to come there.

Will Helen go to the funeral? Would be equally as ridiculous as turning up in the middle of the night to deliver a card.

Mumblechum0 · 19/11/2023 23:44

I do wish they hadn't brought Adil back, he's sooooooooo dull

BeatriceBatchelor · 19/11/2023 23:46

I'd like Helen to go silent now.

OverArmour · 20/11/2023 04:15

They covered the ‘Adil’s fiancée vs wife’ thing. I wonder how long in advance scripts are written and recorded 🤔

OverArmour · 20/11/2023 04:16

I’m over the whole Helen / Rob SL. They’re flogging a (now actually) dead horse.

Alwaysdieting · 20/11/2023 07:03

Borchester Blue with lettuce mmmm delish. That bloody cheese gets mentioned nearly as much as Larkrise! Is that the only cheese Helen makes.
How handy that they need a new fulltime Doctor and Adil's sister seems to be in the right place at the right time, go figure.
I too think Adil is boring and they should have let him stay away. I still cant believe after all the mess he has made everyone including his mysterious employers have forgiven him, ridiculous!

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/11/2023 20:42

Or because he was in pain and frightened and wanted it to stop. And he thought that whilst a health professional couldn't and Miles wouldn't, since she hated him she probably would kill him for him.

Edited

If he was motivated by pain and fear he would have gone for the hospice option. It was a mirroring of the moment when he invited her to stab him.

Passepartoute · 20/11/2023 08:38

Re Adil/Azra: if my brother tried to tell me I should clear it with him before taking a job near where he happened to be living at the relevant time, I'd tell him to fuck right off.

Bruisername · 20/11/2023 08:45

So who are the single men that would be on Azras potentials list?

Alastair is destined for Denise but I guess they could make a love triangle sl

Rex is a bit too young? I assume she’s mid 40s and he’s early 30s?

EBearhug · 20/11/2023 09:52

Roy must be a similar age.

Or if she’s gay she could set a cat among the Piella pigeons!

Roy is a good shout!

greenacrylicpaint · 20/11/2023 09:57

freddy

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/11/2023 09:58

Chris

Bruisername · 20/11/2023 10:04

Freddy is a bit young

How old is Chris?

she could of course go for an older man in Brian or Oliver or Jim!

Eastie77Returns · 20/11/2023 10:11

I really don’t think (and I mean this kindly) Azra would have a lot in common with Will, Chris or Roy. Not to mention Roy’s previous association with the racist thugs who blinded Usha.

Freddy is too young and personally I think he is asexual.

Or she might be a woman who is happy on her own. It has been know to happen.

Bruisername · 20/11/2023 10:19

I didn’t listen to the adil scenes last night as I find him interminably dull. Assumed she mentioned looking for love but if not then yes - her staying single would be better!

the big plus side of the rob sl is that it blocked out the stupid grey gables sl for a while

DeanElderberry · 19/11/2023 19:31

He must have been wired up to a monitor to get that exact a time of death.

Not necessarily. When DM died, I messaged my shit, absent brothers with the time she died, based on my watch. It felt weirdly important to be precise about it too. Goodness knows why! So I presume Miles may have been there, or the carer.

harriethoyle · 20/11/2023 10:24

@Alwaysdieting I agree about that sodding cheese - also, isn't a cheese salad a total oxymoron?! I like my cheese on oatcakes or hunks of french bread or melted to dip a la camembert... I don't want fancy lettuce with it! 😆

TherapistInATabard · 20/11/2023 10:29

I think we’ve been led to believe that Helen has a surplus of Borsetshite Blue (genuine typo that I’m not going to correct 😆) because of the Grey Gables debacle.

DeanElderberry · 20/11/2023 10:32

Cheese on lettuce is lovely. So is pate on lettuce. Nice crisp Cos leaves - better than crackers.

When my father died his breathing had been so shallow that I wasn't absolutely sure it had stopped - did the whole checking with a mirror thing - and when the nurse who'd gone off to (very belatedly) get a morphine pump for him, and I told her not to bother lugging it on for the car, even she had to check to be sure. I know more or less when my father went, but whether it was 14.37 or 14.43 - nah, twenty to three is close enough.

harriethoyle · 20/11/2023 10:36

@TherapistInATabard amazing typo 😆
