It's brilliant! But I don't know anyone else who has heard of it. Anyone on here listened to it?

OP posts:

Thanks op, will check this out. Currently working my way through Uncanny and am really enjoying it

MakeANewPlanStan · 11/11/2023 16:57

Listening to this now. Shock What a great recommendation - thanks!

SinisterBumFacedCat · 12/11/2023 23:59

Love it, started listening for the ghosts but I think the unreliable family history is even more fascinating.

shugarsuz · 13/11/2023 13:02

Just finished it today ❤️ loved it, not at all what expected and liked how the family focus shifted from one person to another at the end

MakeANewPlanStan · 13/11/2023 13:37

I'm halfway through the penultimate episode in which Tristan shares his findings with the family - I didn't think it was possible for my ears to clench, but they are.

Perfectlystill · 27/11/2023 22:58

I've just finished this. It was good but god the Dancy family are precious, aren't they?

And Tristan sounds so wet.

whosaidtha · 20/01/2024 21:35

Loved this. Does anyone have any recommendations for any other stories like this. Not true crime. That's all that google keeps giving me.

Tootingbec · 01/02/2024 20:58

I am on episode 5. I am finding it both a compelling and irritating listen! The Dancy family do sound a little precious as someone else said - all “family archivist” and social capital galore with their public school/Oxbridge backgrounds etc.

BUT it is an interesting listen - especially the sense of “but Faither was such a fun character- he couldn’t possibly have killed anyone” when I was immediately “the husband did it!” - I don’t buy the murder/suicide thing by the brother.

RaelImperialAerosolKid · 05/02/2024 19:23

This was so good! Not sure what I thought in the end - the children seemed to have a good opinion of him and the letters he wrote were very sweet.
But his memoirs? Imagine growing up believing all of it and then told it was all fantasy? That must be hard on the family - especially one that seems so very pleased with themselves.

whosaidtha · 06/02/2024 12:25

Yeah. I was sure he did it when the blood was 'spurting' it only spurts when someone is still alive. I think he probably did it. Why would the brother have hesitation marks and not switch to using the gun if he couldn't do it?

Just finishing up and the two Uncle men are unbearable.

It is brilliant nevertheless.

Loopytiles · 27/03/2024 22:53

Like PPs found it compelling and annoying. Think the presenter oulled his punches for the sake of his in laws.

think the dad he murdered his wife, the pioneering doctor, and possibly even both wives 😨

LunaNorth · 27/03/2024 23:04

This might be of interest. There are four more, too.

Sorry, it’s the Crime Analyst podcast investigation into the Dancy murder case.

SpttyMaldoon · 29/03/2024 07:57

hello
i haven’t read the whole thread as I’m trying to avoid spoilers.
Just started listening and there’s one thing that is bugging me.
the ghost turns up at this guy’s house but the woman died in the House next door.
am I understanding this correctly?

Swamphag · 29/03/2024 08:19

Sorry, it’s the Crime Analyst podcast investigation into the Dancy murder case.

All of Laura's episodes are great she always concentrates on the victim. Thanks for linking this.
The Ghost Story podcast just seems to forget about Naomi it's all about the father. It's like she's just a footnote in her own murder.

Loopytiles · 29/03/2024 08:25

Yes, thank you for the recommendation @LunaNorth , will be good to hear an independent ‘take’

agree with you @Swamphag : the podcaster, like the family, seemed to focus on and was in thrall to the man, when Naomi had achieved so much and merited much more ‘airtime’.

@SpttyMaldoon there is more of the ghost stuff in later episodes that seeks to ‘explain’ things like that: I’m very skeptical about all that but it was a good listen!

SpttyMaldoon · 29/03/2024 08:53

@Loopytiles thanks, I’ll keep listening!

there’s been so many names and families living in different houses that I thought I might have missed something…

ProfYaffle · 30/03/2024 06:09

I binge listened the whole thing yesterday off the back of this thread. It's an amazing story and well told but thank goodness everyone else irritated by the Dancy men! Pompous doesn't even begin to describe it ....

AnImaginaryCat · 30/03/2024 06:39

Yes, I listened a while back. All i look away was that the in the Darcy family men need to be hero worshipped and women didn't matter. The whole family seem to dislike women.

The way the grandfather was considered amazing and excused of everything and the grandmother considered awful.

Couldn't wrapped my head around the fact they were taking about their grandmother.

Imagine having a grandmother as pioneering in your family. Wouldn't everyone know everything about her? Wouldn't she be the one up on a pedestal rather than a man who lied a lot who achievers were through privilege (and that's ignoring the murder).

poorbuthappy · 30/03/2024 06:46

I've just looked for this and can't find it on apple or Amazon music! What am I doing wrong?!

AnImaginaryCat · 30/03/2024 06:46

*Dancy family not Darcy!!

ProfYaffle · 30/03/2024 08:19

@AnImaginaryCat - I know! And the pussy footing around their hurty feelings that it was actually a woman who did great things rather than her husband! Hmm

@poorbuthappy - I listened on Audible it's just called 'Ghost Story' on there, via wondery.

Sorry, it’s the Crime Analyst podcast investigation into the Dancy murder case.

I listened to the first episode while I was having breakfast.

Now I'm cleaning the fridge just so I have an excuse to stay in the kitchen and listen to the second one.

It's so good. The focus really is on the victims thankfully.

Oven probably needs a clean...
