Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd be euphoric about getting a job in an abattoir, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4888492-the-archers-spoilers-thread-8-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks for the thread title suggestions. @HumanWetWipe came up with Cider with Fat Rosie and @BeardieWeirdie thought up Meadow Rise to Candleford. I wish I could have put in the Line of Duty mashups from the end of the last thread. Another time.

Heading for a ferry shortly, so nothing more from me for now. Over to you!

Did anyone else here the click of a walking stick from Rob?

Did anyone else here the click of a walking stick from Rob?

Yes, I did!

JanglyBeads · 02/10/2023 14:19

Rob showed us last night that he hasn't "turned over a new leaf": he was as manipulative, arrogant and self centred as ever.

iratepirate · 02/10/2023 14:21

Yes @TherapistInATabard i thought that, too.

HumanWetWipe · 02/10/2023 14:30

@Bigbadmama , yes but there wasn't a real horse involved and it's fiction. TW is very good. It's a shame that they are dedding him, if they are really dedding him...

Here's Robbie!

Not a horsey person, so stand to be corrected. But would Lillian have been encouraging all that shouting from the sidelines from Emmur? Didn't seem like a very calm and professional environment for a lesson

It depends on the instructor's style. Some seem to go for a constant wall of noise encouragement, particularly with beginners/the less confident. Mine watches in silence before pointing out my shortcomings Grin (but I'm a more experienced rider and I pay them for the constructive criticism)

Yes! I assumed it was a crutch but walking stick would also work.

When they did Blithe Spirit a few years ago I enjoyed that. Susan was the maid who turned out to be psychic, and IIRC Brian played the part that Rex Harrison did in the original. Can't remember which other characters were played, but it was rather good.
Not sure about a reading though.

Was LRtC the characters playing the parts or the actors playing the parts?

HumanWetWipe · 02/10/2023 15:26

The actors were playing the TA characters narrating or playing the LRtC parts. Young Laura is the Tracey actor's daughter. Young Edmund is played by Henry.

@BrightYellowDaffodil the problem with having spectators shouting from the sidelines is that they are a massive distraction to the rider and can make it difficult for the rider to hear the coach (intructor). Your coach obviously has adopted the "Set up and stand back" style which creates more effective learning for adults. Hope you enjoy your lessons.

I missed the bit about shouting from the sidelines, I thought the original comment was about instructors shouting.

No, in all my 40ish years of riding, I have never seen a lesson or training session where spectators were allowed to interact.

I had forgotten it was Julian Rhind Tutt. But Brian would have been perfect!

I can't remember whether I listened to that or not (in 2014 I was in a haze of raising sleepless toddlers), but who is Douglas Herrington as an Archers character? Did he just turn up for the play or did he have some role in TA itself?

EBearhug · 02/10/2023 16:24

Was just wondering the same, @Fink.

Poppins2016 · 02/10/2023 16:46

Me too (or should I say, three!), re Douglas Herrington...

AngryBirdsNoMore · 02/10/2023 16:53

Julian Rhind-Tutt was in the Archers?!

HumanWetWipe · 02/10/2023 17:00

IIRC he was a juror in the Helen stabbed Rob court hearing.

HumanWetWipe · 02/10/2023 17:08

Apparently not.
The Archers: Famous names on jury for Helen Titchener's trial - BBC News
"Three of the jurors will be played by Catherine Tate, Nigel Havers and Dame Eileen Atkins"

Bruisername · 02/10/2023 17:10

I hated the jury scenes.

Douglas Herrington had a part in a rival, FLOS production, but was fed up with it, and on 4th December (when they were due to open on 26th December) Alice talked him into playing the lead in Ambridge. I'm not sure he spoke in The Archers.

WhatapityWapiti · 02/10/2023 17:11

I think played some am dram person from Darrington or something- they created the part in the main TA to justify the inclusion in Blythe Spirit.

WhatapityWapiti · 02/10/2023 17:12

Cross post @AskingQuestionsAllTheTime !

WitcheryDivine · 02/10/2023 17:38

Ha well I predicted the request for baptism/burial on the spoilers thread. Rob is such a tosser.

I know many on here have had personal experience with brain tumours and Rob is clearly going to be a panto villain til then end (now with added twirly cane - and mustaches?) so I've decided that rather than having anything as real and awful as glioblastoma I'm going to pretend he is just "going into a decline" Victorian style.

What IS it with Adil working Sundays? Is he at the allotment the rest of the week?
