Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed, and of course we are always delighted to welcome back former or occasional listeners/posters. We don't all agree on all points, although we do mostly try to be civil about it. Most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think Helen and Tom would do well on Dragons' Den, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please! We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/talk/radio_addicts/4636789-the-archers-spoilers-thread-7-cant-wait-for-702pm-join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @OverArmour for various title ideas! I would have liked to incorporate the suggestion from @Fleetress, which was

‘Do do one Ron, Ron, do do one Ron’

(Rob is Ron for many on this thread now)

Possibly a bit obscure for newer posters, though!

Anyway: we got through that last thread in no time at all. Combined effect of Rob and George, I suspect. I wonder if Rob will have made it to Ambridge by the time we need a new thread. I'm still waiting for Pat's shotgun to feature. That can't have been mentioned for the first time ever for no reason at all.

Over to you!

I meant emotionally heightened by a non "romance" factor eg loss/ exciting news / some other drama

Grimchmas · 13/08/2023 09:50

A significant part of my annoyance is also because she fucked off straight afterwards. She abandoned her friend/potential love interest who moments before was crying because she had to bury her dog today. Abandoning Stella moments after that was a shitty thing to do, but even more so when you've just kissed her for the first time!

Grimchmas · 13/08/2023 09:52

@JanglyBeads do they though, in real life? In soaps, yes, and ok that's what this is.

Perhaps I've just led a dull life in that regard!

JanglyBeads · 13/08/2023 09:59

I'd say yes, but am not speaking from direct personal experience <<reviews all first kisses in lifetime, oo!>> - what do others think?

I think it makes sense that heightened emotion of any kind can lead to such things, perhaps even more than a kiss.

See threads on here re "I was feeling emotional bc of X and we got carried away...."

NetZeroZealot · 13/08/2023 10:36

As far as we know this is the first time Pip has kissed a woman? So I guess the reason she left abruptly was to process her feelings which perhaps she had not anticipated.

You've lost me. Is there an Airbnb storyline on the Archers?

Ambridge seems an AirBnB/holiday lets-free zone. People gladly stay at Ambridge Hall and Brookfield where they are sharing the family bathroom. Grey Gables being closed, and being in an area near popular tourist areas would probably mean a demand.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/08/2023 14:11

BeatriceBatchelor · 13/08/2023 01:06

Oh that's alright then! I thought I'd missed something ... like Stella and Ed getting flirty in the pub. That passed me by too.

I didn't think they did, if that's any help. I thought Ed was still trying (unnecessarily) to placate her about his having killed her dog by accident.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/08/2023 14:17

If both Stella and Pip were not at least a little tipsy after necking a bottle of wine each I would be surprised. I still think Pip's behaviour was shitty: not the kiss itself, that was just taking advantage for plot purposes, the panic-stricken dumping of her sad friend into an even worse state than she had been when all (!!!) that had gone wrong that day was having to bury her dead dog. Stella had said ging home alone to an empty house was horrible for her; Pip made it so that she had to do just that rather than have the night she'd hoped for, with cheerful company to get her through it. Badly done, Pip.

Welshwabbit · 13/08/2023 14:18

I thought the Pip/Stella thing was entirely in character on both sides and am very glad that we didn't have days/weeks of Pip dodging into fields to avoid Stella. I think the ending on Friday was meant to make us think there's more to come. I'm fine with that. I wonder what Ruth will think...

What’s the village in @JoeGrundyWasMyRoleModel’s picture? Anyone recognise it?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/08/2023 15:21

Google Image search suggests Port Isaac in Cornwall.

It is quite creepy, the way George is muscling in on one august Ambridge place after another. Bridge Farm, Home Farm … Wonder what plans he has for Brookfield? Or Lower Loxley?

George is a spotty teenage agriculture student who may not even have passed his college course. No way would he replace Stella who is an experienced farm manager with a strong reputation.

We know that, but George may not see it that way.

PedantScorner · 13/08/2023 17:21

The farm inheritance thread looks strangely familiar. I think I have seen it or something similar before. I can think of one or two cases of the golden child getting everything, and the sibling(s) getting nothing, losing the roof over their heads.

I don't think that Ed and Stella were flirty.

Poor Weaver.

MereDintofPandiculation · 13/08/2023 22:00

Thanks @Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g . Yes, that’s it

Quite. George’s convictions as regards his abilities and what he’s entitled to seem to know no bounds. I feel sorry for any woman who garners his attentions.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/08/2023 22:11

Monty ("yap yap!") is a Dobermann. I mention this in case anyone was under the impression from his voice that he's a terrier like Ruby.

WitcheryDivine · 13/08/2023 22:27

Really enjoyed tonight’s episode. Nice to have some ordinary sorting of holiday activities and Lynda and Tracey being themselves 😄

SequentialAnalyst · 13/08/2023 22:34

Stella and Ed were bonding over having found a solution for George.

I bet he'll be as nice as pie. In hopes that they'll become Team George, like other misguided Ambridge residents.

Did Grange Farm used to do BnB?

Surely at her age, no-one would consider Lynda as an employee? Bit strange.

BeatriceBatchelor · 14/08/2023 00:01

How old is Lynda?
I hope they let her down kindly with her dignity intact. Maybe she could be a welcome host or whatever Oliver was trying to convince Tracey to go for.

TherapistInATabard · 14/08/2023 01:07

Lynda’s been a shoulder to cry on for Fallon recently - will she encourage her to apply?

Born 1947 according to BBC website

leftshark · 14/08/2023 04:37

@WitcheryDivine totally agree - I also loved it when Lynda ended the episode saying goodbye to Tracey with such a pointed ‘Trace’ 😂

I wondered if there was some kind of subtle passing of the baton from Lynda to Tracey tonight… the misunderstanding with Oliver, the (lovely but unusual of late) interaction between Lynda and Tracey, the call backs to Lynda coaching Tracey at GG pre lockdown…

Pip and Stella are lovely. I’m a big Stella fan, and find Pip very annoying, but I actually can see them together. I’d go so far as to to say I hope it’ll be a slow burn until Xmas (I’m sure most of us remember Jazzer/Tracey at the cricket pavilion NYE)

Reggieismycat · 14/08/2023 06:24

Adil is lucky he got an allotment so quick as round here its a 5 year waiting list.
Oh and notice Tracy and Lynda both said Ardil.
