Boss's flamboyant white dress as a wedding dress - yay or nay?

My much wealthier and more flamboyant boss is giving me a vintage dress of hers for my wedding. I’ve never worn anything so extravagant and I’m worried I won’t do it justice.

We're roughly the same height but she definitely has a cleavage usually on show- and I am more of a pear, so it will need alterations, which my big sister will do for me.

The dress is one of my boss's stage outfits from her C&W singer sideline, and she's into her rhinestones. Can I rock it?

The only thing that matters IMO is if you like it and feel like yourself and comfortable in it. Don't wear it just because it was kind of her to give you it, or to be polite. It's OK to say you have been thinking it over and don't feel it's right for you, or that you've tried it on and it's not comfortable.

OTOH if you adore it then yes.

Do you like it?if so crack on

also do you work at Dollywood?

trisfreya · 03/05/2023 19:08

No idea

Photo?

purplecorkheart · 03/05/2023 19:10

Do you like it? Is it comfortable to wear, sit in etc? If you love it wear it if you don't then don't

HarpQuartet · 03/05/2023 19:12

As an Archers fan, I am very much enjoying this in my mind's eye

GoodChat · 03/05/2023 19:16

Have you tried on other dresses? Do you know what you want?

ChelseaHorrobin · 03/05/2023 19:16

Do I like it? I love it but I don't have the figure. I'm quite slim but definitely not busty. The dress is amazing but I'm a breton and skinnies kinda gal.

Big Sis isn't big BTW, far from it, but she's older than me. She made a lovely job of DNiece's wedding dresses.

Did you mean to post this in Radio Addicts?

I was desperately trying to picture this as a Radio4 show.

ChelseaHorrobin · 03/05/2023 19:19

I've not tried any other dresses. Money's a bit tight so even a second hand one is beyond my budget.
DD is a whizz at hairdressing and make-up, so she'll give me a makeover.

Er, isn't your Boss Freddie? And aren't you going to be a non binary bridesmaid?

ChelseaHorrobin · 03/05/2023 19:23

My boss is definitely not non-binary! She's married and has a grown up daughter.

I'm using DD's MN account - she had a bit of bother last year and needed advice.

I think there will be some pub landlord confusion with the big rhinestone dress and blushes all round.

ChelseaHorrobin · 03/05/2023 19:24

Thanks for the advice you gave Chels. She didn't have the baby in the end and she got through it OK.

Oh blah

Devonshiregal · 03/05/2023 19:47

If you’re going to wear it, wear the fuck out of it. The ONLY thing that will make it look not good is if you’re slinking around looking embarrassed. And if you don’t want to wear something so extravagant trawl some charity shops, or wear a cream pantsuit.

enjoy your wedding!

TottersBlankly · 03/05/2023 20:07

Oh, Tracy … Not only stealing your daughter @ChelseaHorrobin‘s user name, but using someone else’s post (word for word!) to start a thread. I’ll take my credit for that opening paragraph now, thanks …

You’re so much better than this.

<Shakes head sadly>

ChelseaHorrobin · 03/05/2023 20:09

@TottersBlankly , ever heard of 'be careful what you wish for'? Grin

ChelseaHorrobin · 03/05/2023 20:09

It wasn't word for word, BTW.

Indeed …

Compare my original post:

I wish there was a thread though - “My much wealthier and more flamboyant boss is gifting me a vintage dress of hers for my wedding. I’ve never worn anything so extravagant and I’m worried I won’t do it justice.”

Disappointingly no one has asked who the dress is designed by.
