Murdaugh Murders - is anyone listening?

Incredibly well researched by Mandy Matney, who endured sexism and ridicule in the early episodes. It is largely down to her efforts that the Murdaugh transgressions have received sunlight and just mind boggling as to how much has gone on - and the levels of corruption. Real journalistic triumph. Puts the Netflix series to shame. Over 80 episodes and still going - I'm riveted!

I have been listening, but it is very detailed and a little repetitive in places. I started to find it hard going, so needed a break.

Yes I'd agree that it's super detailed. She is very clear that for her the podcast is not about entertainment and the her aim is to expose widespread corruption within South Carolina. She is clear that she believes the the job of a journalist to be about casting sunlight on corruption and has exposed other media - including mainstream media - for not doing enough in this respect, perhaps to the point of being complicit.

My guess is that because so many people - mostly powerful men - have tried very hard to censor her, her approach is to ensure that every single sentence she writes or speaks is backed up by evidence. I think it's an incredibly powerful series to listen to - for lots of reasons. There aren't enough people like her around and actually I find it hard now to switch back to the true crime entertainment stuff.

But my word, the corruption. What starts out as a murder podcast quickly becomes something much much bigger, with no end in sight. Every time you think you've heard it all. And many of the key players are still in power. Scary stuff.

I'm only up to April 2022,and am hooked. I'm lucky that I m self employed so can listen to podcasts all day long whilst I work.
I've got a lot of time for her, she's obviously doggedly determined and not scared by the good old boy network. Her research is impeccable and the corruption in the SC justice system is truly shocking.
We need more Mandy Matneys.
