Does anyone listen to this one, hosted by Katherine Ryan? I disagree with about 70% of her views but it's still quite entertaining.

I used to really like KR's routine and humour. Ever since she married that guy, though, it's the textbook of watching a friend disappear into a relationship with an asshole. Her husband is an antivaxxer conservative who likes Jordan Peterson and doesn't seem terribly smart. In her most recent (very badly timed) episode, she came out swinging about how much she likes Andrew Tate and we can't always agree with everyone about everything. I mean, I agree with that sentiment -- but proving it with Andrew freaking Tate?

It was painful to listen to the episode where she read a reader email about Bobby's terrible remarks about Meghan Markle in a previous episode, and when Bobby joined her later to discuss the email, Katherine was wildly softening the reader comments (along the lines of 'People really do like you! People love it when you come on the show!') when I would be willing to put five quid on a bet that most of her listeners do not like him. I used to be a regular listener, but as of the Tate episode, I unsubscribed.

Yes I agree, it's actually been really odd to hear the change in her and the slow reveal of "perfect" Bobby k turning out to be a real douchebag.

talkingpaperclip · 03/01/2023 08:47

Slow reveal is right. My head cocked a bit at the beginning when she said he really hated Hillary Clinton. Fine. But then he also hates Meghan Markle, loves Jordan Peterson and Andrew Tate and that potato faced man, loves Kate for being pretty and silent, isn't vaccinated, doesn't work but also doesn't cook for their baby or take care of baby in the night because he "needs sleep" (while KR doesn't need sleep?). He seems to play golf, smoke and read internet misogynists all day, and occasionally cook a sponsored meal.

I loved her message of confidence and empowerment as a single mum. This is not it.

SpicedPumpkinLatte · 06/01/2023 18:16

Sorry for returning late to this. Just caught up on her last two podcasts where she completely misjudged the Andrew Tate thing.

She has also become a bit of a baby bore. Has to keep telling everyone she's mostly been pregnant over the past few years. She seems obsessed.

WestOfWestminster · 08/01/2023 16:58

The Andrew Tate thing was pretty badly timed wasnt it

I get that her style is be frank, open, not give a fuck about others opinions of her & on one hand I love that, it's refreshing to see a woman happy to be so outspoken, but on the other hand her podcast is really putting me off her! Some of the things she says come across as extraordinary lacking in insight or intelligence.
For example, her recent one about her childbirth experience - it sounded as if she thinks that women who have c-sections actively choose that option rather than it being in many cases something that happens to save the life of the baby or mother when all natural options haven't been successful.

Her husband doesn't come across very well like others have said, will be interesting to see how that goes.

Lottapianos · 20/01/2023 17:32

I listened to the first few episodes but wasn't keen at all. Found her very self-absorbed and tiresome. Good grief though, the husband sounds truly awful! What a shame she got involved with him again

LadyOfTheCanyon · 04/02/2023 09:19

Yep it's a tricky one. I generally have a lot of time for KR and I like that she is a strong rich woman with influence who is firmly on the side of empowering women. Shes been dignified about her eldest daughter's father, which is good.

She's had to hustle to make money in the past and now she's making hay while the sun shines and I can't blame her for that at all. She understands her privilege as a beautiful rich white woman and I like that she acknowledges that.

However, The Andrew Tate stuff was pretty inexcusable. She does seem in thrall to 'big dick energy' herself and that's a worry in itself.

HerbalTeaAndCake · 13/02/2023 22:48

I thought she was funny with the stand up stuff at first.
Then she did that tv show and she really annoyed me.
And now, yes it's just all so misfiring. I can't actually watch her anymore.

ArcticChinchilla · 26/03/2023 19:37

I have listened to a couple of episodes and I must admit I do warm to her on some level, until I remember her early days in the UK when her act was essentially "mean girl with racist undercurrent", jokes about black female stereotypes that I remember the too cool for school girls used to dish out to make themselves look edgy in front of the boys. It doesn't sound as though she's moved on much from that - maybe just got better PR advisers.

I also find the dynamics she mentions in her relationship disturbing. In one episode she talked about the focus on her childbirth being about giving Bobby a nice experience, because the baby was his first. I was on the train when I heard that and actually said "what the fuck?" out loud. I stopped listening after that. Disappointing.

persimmonicelolly · 06/08/2023 06:58

It only get weirder.

  • She is an attachment parent with two children under three and is clearly uncomfortable with the fact that she has a nanny, so she refers to the nanny as her older toddler's 'executive assistant' which makes her sound disrespectful and arrogant (and her son like a monster)
  • On the most recent podcast, she refers to using childcare as having other people 'raise your kids' which is incredibly judgmental toward women who work out of economic necessity or preference.
  • Her partner is a 'stay at home dad' who golfs 24/7. In the most recent pod she talked about trying to hire a zero-hours nanny to occasionally work weekends so she could have a lie-in. No word on why her unemployed spouse can't take care of his own children one morning a week so she can sleep after a late night gig. He seems like some kind of live-in sperm donor who needs to be constantly coddled to participate in family life.
  • The alt right stuff has only continued; she uses 'woke' as a generalised slur and said Jonah Hill was only establishing boundaries when he told his girlfriend she wasn't allowed to speak to other men or post photos of herself in a swimsuit (as a professional surfer)
  • And, reveal: after years of blurring her child's face online, they're now going to do a reality show. I'm curious how big her audience is given that she was popular on panel shows but her solo TV projects have all flopped.

I think her frankness has soured into an arrogance ever since her financial success has made her more and more detached from normal life.

SpicedPumpkinLatte · 07/08/2023 20:02

Yeah, she is weird. She bangs on about having 2 babies like she is unusual. She also implied being an "alternative parent" but, other than potty training her baby, not sure why she thinks she is so unique.

Then there was a big drama about her not being able to travel at the drop of a hat to a sexual health centre as she has to lug around 2 kids. What about the unemployed husband and the nanny FFS?!!

I think she is a bit deluded actually.

Bobby was probably too busy golfing to accommodate her HPV test

broderiechair · 08/08/2023 16:22

Ugh the "executive assistant" thing is so patronising, she's so insecure about needing help with the kids that she demeans the trained people she employs.

Anyone watch gogglebox? Her and Bobby have been totally sidelined due to Bobby being so dry and boring. They're barely in it.

Lottapianos · 08/08/2023 16:38

'Anyone watch gogglebox? Her and Bobby have been totally sidelined due to Bobby being so dry and boring. They're barely in it.'

He hardly said a thing, just sat there looking bored. Sounds like a very unpleasant character from what I've read on here. No idea what she sees in him
