I can't imagine many Radio 4 programmes more up my street than this one.

It's Radio 3, @nauticant! Grin

He was Angela Lansbury's first cousin, which I didn't know, or had forgotten until she died. I plan to move on to his Desert Island Discs next: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b007snc7

About 20 years ago he gave a talk in Brighton. It was in the small studio at the Komedia. For some reason there were only about 20 people there. He showed us Bagpuss, Major Clanger and Professor Yaffle. He talked about his life and time, and then read a story. Me and DH were sat at the front. At the end most of the rest of the audience filed out, me and DH waited until the end. He then came up to us and asked if we wanted to hold bagpuss!

Lovely stuff, thank you for this!

I assume the answer was yes! Deeply envious.

Very yes. We got to hold Bagpus, Prof Yaffle and Major Clanger. This was the days before camera phones, so we don’t have photos.
