Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think commissioning a stained glass window for two of your great-grandchildren and nothing for all the others is a sensible thing to do, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/4197199--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-6-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @LillianGish and @MuddlerInLaw for title ideas, which I have played around with a bit. I'm sad to have heard the last of Peggy. An era starts to draw to a close.

What a relief to be out of the Steph Casey phase, which I hope was an unfortunate blip, not to be repeated. [Triumph of hope over experience there ... ]

@BoreofWhabylon has asked the 🔮 about Adil and it predicts that he is actually the Mysterious New Owner of Grey Gables but won't be revealed as such until he has won Kirsty's heart (or some similar Mills & Boon level tosh - apols to the 🔮 but it does seem to have a mushy side). I still cling to the idea that the mysterious silent and invisible Gills who now own Home Farm may have some role at GG, but why not name them?

No mention of the heatwave in Ambridge, but budget constraints probably severely limit their scope for topical inserts these days. IRL I believe this has been a tricky time for farmers. Perhaps the SWs will catch up with this over the winter and start putting in some farming chat about diversification away from oats to olives, or similar. We already have at least one vineyard in the Ambridge area, at LL. (I understand there was another, in the heart of the village, decades ago, but the SWs have now forgotten all about it, sadly.)

Over to you!

Say what you will about the hackneyed nature of a teenage pregnancy storyline, it's certainly got this thread moving!

Nothing easier for the SWs than engineering a scene where Russ/Lily/Freddie/Elizabeth finds Chelsea being sick in The Orangery and the penny drops. However, I can't stomach the idea that Russ could be the father. Revolting. Of course Chelsea should have a termination, but surely we'll find out who the father is. The people of Ambridge might not. (Adam's father was a secret for decades.)

Horrobin family tree, as far as I can recall:

Bert (lives with Tracy, or rather she and the children and now Jazzer live with him in his council house) - BBC has an actor named in his bio but I don't recall him ever speaking
His wife Ivy died many years ago, having never uttered a word on air to my knowledge

Their children, not in order of age, as I don't know that:
Keith
Gary
Stewart
Susan
Clive
Tracy

Clive was in a relationship with Johnnie's mother Sharon Richards, and had a daughter, Kylie with her. So yes, Clive is Chelsea and Brad's uncle. Not sure they will ever have met him, as he's been in prison a long time now (assuming he's still there).

Maybe it was Ambridge Extra but Ivy Horrobin definitely spoke for several episodes just before she expired from lung cancer- I remember it clearly as the hacking cough was bloody awful to listen to.

I feel like I can remember Bert too, but possibly I'm just thinking of Alfred Steptoe.

Flumpaphone · 05/09/2022 17:14

Isn't Freddie Chelsea's boss?

Chelsea wanted to keep her job a few weeks ago.

That would put the cat amongst the pigeons a Horrobin as heir to LL

MuddlerInLaw · 05/09/2022 17:21

😆

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/09/2022 17:24

Ah, I didn't listen to Ambridge Extra. Didn't realise the Horrobins had featured on it.

Is Chelsea actually pregnant or is this just speculation (fingers crossed) on this thread? If the former do the SWs really think this is all a working class young woman can aspire to? Chelsea deserves better.
And teenage pregnancy and secret father was done to death by Eastenders with Shell and Dirty Den

stilldumdedumming · 05/09/2022 09:43

And lily will have to come to terms with that she was a victim of grooming really. Very complex for her. And Chelsea will lose her job? Do we think?

It will depend whether anyone finds out it is Russ. If Tracey or Jazzer find out then it must come crashing down. Chelsea will confide in Brad first. Siblings that cannot stand each other have an odd knack of confiding in the most difficult of times.

Good points. He's groomed them all really, Lizzie only second to Lily, I kept thinking he'd go for her.
Maybe no (inc us?) will discover for months and months? Certainly not til R and L have bought the flat.

ButtonSister · 05/09/2022 19:10

Will the unborn baby be a Chelsea Bun?

JanglyBeads · 05/09/2022 19:15

😂

JanglyBeads · 05/09/2022 19:15

But so can on to say Bear

stilldumdedumming · 05/09/2022 19:16

Is Chelsea pregnant? She said she took a test. So yes. How far or if will stay we don't know yet.

JanglyBeads · 05/09/2022 19:16

Aargh that was meant to say, I came on to say Bear

JanglyBeads · 05/09/2022 19:17

Poor chelse, poor Tracy.

WhoppingBigBackside · 05/09/2022 19:29

It's a chelsea bun in the oven

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 05/09/2022 20:37

I suppose it would be too much to hope that Chelsea has taken herself off to Manchester for an appointment with Marie Stopes or BPAS?

MereDintofPandiculation · 05/09/2022 21:24

Wasn’t that a massive Data Privacy fail from Harrison? “Tracey has just rung to say she needs to speak to me urgently”

But it ensured the news got to nosey Jolene and therefore to the whole village. A mechanism for getting the news to Russ.

Could Chelsea be at Lower Loxley?

stilldumdedumming · 05/09/2022 22:28

Yes but Harrison's a flaming clumsy copper.

JanglyBeads · 05/09/2022 22:50

Do we presume Russ (if it's him) already knows about the pregnancy then? Surely not.

TheLassWiADelicateAir · 05/09/2022 22:57

BrightYellowDaffodil · 05/09/2022 22:17

It seems a bit strange that they've gone through the list of her friends and not phoned Mr Jones along the lines of 'we know she confides in you and wanted to ask if she's said anything to you that might give us a clue as to where she is'.

Someone posted this on Musterland. Tracey knew and approved Russ being the appropriate adult at the police station. That would add another twist, but it does make sense to ask him.

girlwhowearsglasses · 05/09/2022 23:22

Anyone whose hair has been cut by Chelsea is in the frame- even Harrison. But Freddie would indeed be the most disruptive story.

I think it’s interesting that we’ve had no clue of this hitherto - unless I’ve missed something. I think it says something about how easy it is for something this momentous to go unnoticed within a family. If you think about it the possibilities for a coercive, abusive, illicit, or indeed loving and entirely healthy relationship to go under the radar are huge

Justasec321 · 06/09/2022 03:50

It HAS to be Harrison. She is cutting his hair every two weeks!
he wanted a baby a while back right?

JanglyBeads · 06/09/2022 07:34

Oh absolutely @girlwhowearsglasses

SaltyCrisp · 06/09/2022 07:35

No way is it Russ. And not just because I love him.

BeardieWeirdie · 06/09/2022 07:51

Harrison worships Fallon - there’s no way he’d cheat on her with a stroppy teen.

I agree. It won't be him.
