True Crime - without the annoying bits

Can I have some suggestions for true crime pods that are just kind of straight to the point without irritations.

I'm mostly listening to Crime Junkie which I like in terms of length of story but I find it really annoying how they spend 20 minutes chatting about crap before they get into the stories. There's also a distracting hum in the background.

I tried They Walk Among Us but the guys voice is sooo annoying. Is it the same guy on all episodes?

Ideally I'd be more interested in hearing UK crimes but it's not the be all/end all.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a non-annoying, long-form journalism podcast? I like some of those recommended so far but prefer it when the investigation develops over several episodes. I've already listened to (and would recommend!) the Serials, Fred the Head, The Gentleman of Heligoland, I am not a Monster (the BBC Sounds Shamima Begum one that has just started), Pig Iron, and a bunch of others. Ideas for new ones would be most welcome.

@FloozingThePlot definitely Crime Analyst or Real Crime Profile. Both series have been running for a few years (RCP the longest) but both take plenty of time over the various cases they cover.

Crime Analyst took 16 episodes over the Yorkshire Ripper (though it’s more about who the victims were rather than the crimes themselves) and 11 episodes over the murder of Sophie Toscan du Plantier.

Real Crime Profile took about 12 episodes to cover the murders of Nicole Brown-Simpson and Ron Goldman (OJ Simpson).

Both series sometimes jump off topic for an episode or two, if you’re listening in recording order, usually if there’s been something in the news.

@CaveMum thank you - much appreciated. I will give those a go.

@EishetChayil I'm listening to the Lost Hills Malibu one now - impressed with it so far so thank you also for mentioning this.

I’ve just finished Through The Wall: the case against Luke Mitchell, which only dropped on Spotify on Wednesday. 6 episodes of half an hour to an hour each.

Others that I think are worth a listen on BBC Sounds are

-The Cruelty - about the unknown bairn, a child's body found in 1971 in the River Tay that was never reported missing or claimed.

-The Boy in the Woods - about the murder of Rikki Neeve

  • The Doorstep Murder - about the Murder of Alistair Wilson in Nairn.

-The Kidnapping of Stephanie Slater

I'm recently listened to Teacher's Pet on Spotify about the disappearance of a woman in Australia in 1982 and leads on to investigating grooming of highscool kids by teachers. It is really good but it is long - 14 episodes of about an hour each. 🙂

Can I Tell You a Secret? Is also good about online stalking.

also, the original Serial about the case of Adnan Syed still remains one of the best.

Just discovered Crime Weekly - it's American. Great, really in depth coverage of cases and no annoying nonsense, though there are ads, which I just fast forward through. Two presenters, male and female, and they really dig deeply into the case being covered. Usually they have several episodes devoted to a particular case.

Stephanie Harlowe and Derek Lavaser? He's an ex detective who won Big Brother(US) a few years ago. Stephanie has a YouTube channel too!

I follow a channel on youtube called That Chapter which is a young Irish lad called Mike telling true crime stories and he is excellent. He has just started podcasts also called That Chapter. I havent listened yet but if it is half as good as his youtube channel, they will be very good.
