Sunday morning radio

Veterinari · 21/02/2021 09:18

During the week and Saturdays I wake up to BBC radio 4. I really like the today programme and talk radio generally

However it al goes wrong in Sundays with religious sermons and singing Sad
Can anyone suggest an alternate station for me please?

Have you tried Radio 4 extra - mainly archive comedies and that kind of thing?

PufflingPantsOn · 21/02/2021 15:45

I listen to Maajid Nawaz on LBC for good conversation and topical debate from 12 noon.

Thanks yes I have but often find myself halfway through a random drama with no idea what's going on!

Thanks but it's the Sunday morning session I need to fill - I get up fairly early but lounge in bed with tea for an hour or two

You can listen to any BBC programmes from the last week on the iPlayer, and loads of podcasts too.
Personally I enjoy Broadcasting House 9-10am on R4

Thanks yeah I'm currently doing this, had just hoped there might be a station I could switch to so I don't have to keep finding thing for Alexa to play.

Looks like there isn't though

BBC World Service? Not sure what Sunday is like though.

I'm really really enjoying Times radio. It's solved my Sunday radio 4 awfulness conundrum.

iMatter · 23/02/2021 07:25

Have you tried Times Radio?

I'm a big fan and listen every day. I have stopped listening to R4 in the morning altogether.

lljkk · 23/02/2021 07:36

Why not BBC World Service, OP?

How do you handle the religion on Today programme? Makes my teeth itch.

Sittinbythetree · 23/02/2021 07:45

Another vote for times radio. I still listen to ‘today’ in the week but times radio at the weekend. I quite like broadcasting house on r4 though - the ghastliness starts a 9 on Saturday imo!

I do often listen to world service but (at the risk of sounding ignorant) I find the pieces can be either super interesting or super depressing. And I don't really want depressing. Yes I'm picky Grin

The only really religious bit in Today is 'thought for the day' I can zone out for 5 mins when that is on

Right will try that - never heard of it thank you

I'd be really interested to hear what you think of Times radio.

I hope you enjoy it Smile

Veterinari · 23/02/2021 14:13

Well I listened for a bit this morning and they were interviewing Richard Leakey. I'm a bit of a science nerd so enjoyed that.

Will report back on Sunday!

I might give Times Radio a try too.

ILoveShula · 25/02/2021 12:33

I enjoy the Sunday programmes on R4, and will even listen to Something Understood, although usually I'll switch off.

Not that it helps OP.

I quite like Thought for the Day as it breaks up the monotony of the rest of Today.

Springquartet · 09/03/2021 19:41

Would recommend Times Radio as well. Lots of interesting chat and interviews and no hymns or prayers. We always listen at the weekends now and you can find lots of their interviews on their website.

Usernamenotava1lable · 09/03/2021 22:12

I could have written this post... I even try to ensure I'm a few minutes behind live radio when thought for the day comes on so I can skip right over it.
I try to save up some podcasts for Sunday mornings. Really like Americast.

ppeatfruit · 12/03/2021 14:00

Oh I like it from 9am now! They've improved on the boring readings, Like the Bird Tweet of the day, there are 2 of them. The chat is quite good with 'celebs' choices of the papers. Then the Archers of course. I especially love Just A Minute with the new presenters who are old game players; Paul Merton was great, Sue P. ok. Then The Food Programme!

With 4X you have to be in at the beginning of some of the comedies, every half hour, sadly they are sometimes grim though.
