Does anyone actually like Pip?

I’m not a regular Archers listener. In fact It’s sometimes months in between catching episodes. But when we I do listen and Pip comes one she’s just awful! So smug and self absorbed and just urghhh. Have I just missed all her lovely moments?
My view of her might be clouded by a thread on hear way back when The Archers was about to be ‘shaken to the core’. Some predicted that of the reasons I dislike Pip

Sorry. Someone on here predicted that the big event was going to be David accidentally shooting Pip having mistaken her for a badger. I so wanted this to happen! I don’t think I’ve ever forgiven her for not getting shot.
Anyway, who here likes Pip? Should I give her a second chance?

No I dont like Pip at all she is an extremely irritating character but the character I really loathe is Rex. I cant stand his whining and moaning in his irritating nasally voice. He is such a bore, every time I listen to The Archers and hes on it I find myself muttering about what a twat he is.

Pip is awful. Everyone hates Pip. Rex has morphed into an absolute entitled arse. Awful people with whiney generic voices

I'm also an intermittent listener but I don't like Pip and don't know anyone who does! So irritating.

I liked her more when she was played by Helen Monks, she had a much livelier and less entitled/smug. Can't be doing with her currently.

I used to love Rex, he was hardworking, sweet and not a feckless sponger like his brother, but he's become really bitter.

I do miss Old Tony - David Troughton sounds (and looks) permanently depressed.

I can’t remember old Pip only my enormous disappointment in her replacement. And yes to Tony too.

I might join the long archers thread. I think I need more Archers in my life.

Can’t bloody stand her. It’s definitely not helped by the actor’s delivery. I remember her on Home Fires on TV a few years ago and she was pretty good in that. I once asked Keri Davies on Twitter if were supposed to like Pip and he said ‘we just write her’ which was such a cop out!

I loathe her, and I agree that the intonations the actor uses definitely contribute.

It also doesn't help at all that the Dopeys think the sun shines out of her backside whilst being simultaneously pretty foul to her siblings for the crime of being Not Saint Pip.

Yes I agree with everyone that the actors delivery doesn’t help Pips cause.
And the Pip worship! Urgh. I wonder what the actors who play Ruth and David really thing of her. The Keri Davies quote is definitely a bit of a cop out!

I don't like Pip. I found old Pip more sympathetic, even when she was going out with Jude and was angry with David and Ruth because they didn't think he was suitable.

I know some people don't like discussion about the actors so please ignore the next bit if you don't.

I can't understand why Daisy Badger was chosen to play a radio character when her intonation is so strange. I actually think it makes her words sound even more unsympathetic. She is RSC trained so I don't know why she can't seem to deliver her lines. She just doesn't have a voice for radio in my opinion.

She's hard to warm to and very irritating I agree. I wish BBC would put old episodes of Archers on so those of us who only came to it could hear Old Pip before she was extra annoying :-(. Off topic but the character I find most annoying is Kirsty. Oh the drama

No, Pip, is not an appealing character for all reasons already outlined.

However, no one beats Peggy for sheer horror, with Shula a close second.

Comparatively therefore, Pip isn't totally awful as she has potential to change!

I feel mean for disliking Peggy but I just. Can't. Stand. Her. I also find Pip awful. Shula is a bit up her own arse but I think she generally means well.

I stopped listening to The Archers when they did all that Shakes Ambridge To The Core nonsense. If I wanted ahistorical sensationalist nonsense I’d watch Eastenders, thanks. It doesn’t exist for me now. It ended at that point. Such a shame, so long running and all, but I suppose all good things do end. Anyway, all that is just to say that even when I did listen to it Pip was fucking annoying.

(Sorry to be That Person but I used to really enjoy The Archers and they’ve fucked it right up).

But we seem to enjoy being part of the listening and posting community even more than we enjoy harbouring a grudge against long disappeared R4 editors ...
