Lost touch with the Archers - can anyone fill me in?!

I stopped listening when it turned into monologues during the first lockdown - just couldn't bear it. But now I really miss it! Sad

This is a lot to ask but can anyone fill in me in on what's happened since March/April?! Just a vague outline... Last time I listened Philip was trying to escape blame for the explosion and Linda was recovering, IIRC!

Watching amen bumping as I used to be an archers addict but have lost touch. Last I heard pip was pregnant with Toby’s baby...

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2020 19:08

Lynda has recovered but isn't back to her usual self.
Philip and Gavin have horses.
Pip has had her baby.
Elizabeth is OLDing.
Alice has been drinking a lot and is expecting the Chrysalis.
Some old coins have been found at Brookfield

fluffiphlox · 05/11/2020 19:10

Why is Gavin pretending to have a gambling problem? Baffled.

Thank you all!

I have a few questions:

What is OLDing?
Isn't Philip a baddie?
Pip had another baby?! With who?

@fluffiphlox

Why is Gavin pretending to have a gambling problem? Baffled.
Susan overheard him on the phone talking about the 'horses' (ie the lads they've got in a modern slavery situation). She made the assumption that it was a gambling problem and told Kirsty. Philip leapt on this as a cover for all the tension and covert conversations etc, and coerced Gavin into playing along with it.
ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2020 19:16

What is OLDing?
Online dating. Her one foray into an actual date was a no-show, she ended up having a drink with Vince Casey instead. Frilly disapprove.

MikeUniformMike · 05/11/2020 19:18

Pip has only one child.

Nightmanagerfan · 05/11/2020 19:20

Pip only has one child!

Yes Philip is a piece of work, but poor Kirsty has yet to find out. Gavin still living with them.

Susan Carter’s radio show is dull as ever.

Lily is still with Call Me Russ.
Freddie is organising a Christmas show at LL.

Brookfield are expanding and have given Rex and Toby notice.

Great, thanks everyone Smile

Also... (sorry) what happened between Fallon and Emma? I am a proper Archers fan I promise - have been listening for 20 years before this Halo

I stopped listening since the monologues but according to my mum (the avid archers listener) it’s back to normalish for the past 5 weeks, that’s as far back as I went to catch up.

Madcats · 05/11/2020 19:47

Fallon was going to make Emma redundant as Bridge Farm wouldn't reduce the rent. Then an orchard magically appeared behind the tearoom and suddenly everybody flocked there!

If this is wrong, in my defence, I stopped listening for a while..:

rose69 · 05/11/2020 20:03

Was Elizabeth's date a no show or had Vince Casey set something up

ErrolTheDragon · 05/11/2020 20:09

@rose69

Was Elizabeth's date a no show or had Vince Casey set something up
Debatable (there's some discussion on the current TA thread)
fluffiphlox · 05/11/2020 22:08

@ErrolTheDragon
Thank you for the explanation. I couldn’t fathom it.

R4 · 09/11/2020 09:27

Never mind Fallon & Emma, we've moved on to Alice & Emma.
Alice has a drink problem that has only been spotted by MeanEd. Alice left a drunken voicemail for Emm that said some pretty hateful things, years of pent-up vitriol. Emm, not surprisingly, is unimpressed and has broken off contact.
Meanwhile Alice has told the world about the Chrysalis (that we thought at one stage that she might terminate) so Soosan is over the moon but won't cannot understand why MeanEd are not also thrilled for them.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 12/11/2020 07:51

Fallon has told Harrison she doesn't want to have any children. He would have liked to be a Dad, but it's Fallon he wants above everything else, so it's all fine.

Kirsty and Philip are planning to sell their new build house and move to a cottage in the Welsh mountains. Kirsty thinks Helen should buy the house (what with? Magic buttons?). Kirsty is obviously about to be knocked back for the umpteenth time. Sad

Ruairi is about to turn 18. Shock Siobhan (his mother, who died many years ago) recorded a message for him which his aunt has sent to Ruairi to listen to on his birthday. This may be tonight. Brian is aghast. Jennifer has handled the situation much better.

Shula is still learning to be a vicar.

Alistair is keen to support Gavin the gambler. Philip and Gavin have to be unmasked as slavemasters, the sooner the better, and this may be one of the plot devices in play.

There was some tedious story involving the Bull and a naughty milkman calendar/poster/something and (inevitably) Jazzer. Hoping that will now go away.

Tracy is captain of the cricket team but for obvious reasons there have been very few cricket storylines this year.

Sauvignonblanket · 16/11/2020 21:27

Thank you! I stopped listening during the monologues and was surprised Philip was still around...
