In Our Time - MB voice

I was listening to IOT on podcast and thought MB's voice sounded unusual. Does anyone know if he's okay or if it was a recording glitch? Or maybe I was just hearing things.

I thought that too but put it down to the fact he's 80 now and his voice may have changed due to age.

It sounded ok to me but it may have been recorded remotely and he is aged.

I guess I thought it was quite a marked change from before the summer. But I actually wonder if it was a recording issue as it just sounded higher (a bit like he'd taken helium) rather than any of the more usual signs of aging such as being more tremulous. I hasten to add that my own voice is in no way fit for radio. I was just concerned for his vocal health as it is his livelihood (and the world's enjoyment and education of course).

Heard it today and he does sound a bit different. He is 81 though.

I wondered this too.

I assume he’s not in the studio. The vagaries of recording equipment and the acoustic treatment of the room he is in will have an impact on the quality of the voice we hear.
