Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you think we should hear more about the Naughty Milkman, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3853783--The-Archers-spoilers-thread-5-Cant-wait-for-7-02pm-Join-us-here, where spoilers are positively welcomed!

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @Roysnewshirt for the excellent title suggestion, which I tweaked a bit.

I wonder how much dialogue we're going to get in the coming weeks. They're back to normal recording, I believe, albeit socially distanced. Also, when will we get our Friday and Sunday episodes back? I know I'm not the only regular to miss TA a lot more on Friday than on Sunday. The Sunday episode is still an incomer, of course, having only been introduced some 20 years ago, of course. Grin

(My parents retired to a village and some features of Ambridge life are very familiar from their experience, the 'incomer' label being one.)

Do student archaeologists form a bubble? They could all pay to sleep in the wedding barn with its kitchen and toilet facilities that haven't been mentioned for 6 months.

I think we deserve a celeb archaeologist "pop-in".

Minimammoth · 07/10/2020 20:58

But...the power of Ambridge Health Fairy is formidable.

Roysnewshirt · 08/10/2020 08:26

Oh goodness! I wonder if Prince William and Sir David are Archers listeners? Must be, or at least the advisors must be, because the Earth Shot prize sounds VERY similar to Peggy’s environmental charitable trust.

Pip, Phoebe and Rex are going to be sharpening up their pencils again for a £1m prize. Justin will want a piece of the action as a partner and will LOVE getting ready for the drinks reception presentation at Kensington Palace when the rewinding project goes national!

Not much to comment re last night except Ruth reminded me of a cartoon character with $$ signs whirring round in her eyeball sockets. Would she really react to the word ‘treasure’ like that?

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 08/10/2020 08:30

Was about to say exactly the same about Peggy and Ruth, Roysnewshirt!

JoeGrundyWasMyRoleModel · 08/10/2020 09:13

Just wait until Radio Carter hears about the Treasure. ShockAngryEnvy

Turkeys. I've just been pontificating in an Ocado thread about how difficult this Christmas will be for turkey farmers, on the back of an item I heard on the radio the other day (World at One? can't remember now). Big turkey producers had already contracted to buy the birds they rear for Christmas when we went into lockdown. They mostly aim to produce big birds suitable for large family gatherings. This year demand for smaller birds will be greater, if families bother having a turkey at all. I have the impression that Eddie's turkeys are all monsters. Did he have time to change his order to smaller birds, or reduce the numbers he rears?

Madcats · 08/10/2020 14:45

Leaps over from the Ocado thread...

Gaspode Farming Today was talking to turkey farmers a few weeks ago. The conclusion seemed to be that they just need to have a pretty good idea what is going to happen (and they will slaughter a bit earlier and alter the feed). For a small scale farmer, like Eddie, losing several £ income per bird is not going to be good news.

I notice that my butcher (who has concluded that I must be vegan) has started selling rolled turkey breast joints.

Does that mean TA will revertrevert to pre-Covid? Wink

TheSilveryPussycat · 08/10/2020 15:47

Maybe not just TA - maybe the whole of reality...

They could all pay to sleep in the wedding barn with its kitchen and toilet facilities that haven't been mentioned for 6 months.

I wondered the same and a split second later the wonder was replaced by profound thanks that we haven't had to listen to the Dopeys whining endlessly about how they spent gazillions, will go bankrupt for lost weddings, how awful the customers are and how its all so haaaa--aard for them compared to everyone else who has it easier.

Taswama · 08/10/2020 16:42

There were plenty of turkeys at the free range place we walk past regularly. Geese too, but after being inspired by the Fairbros a few years ago to try it, we'll stick to turkey.

Motoko · 08/10/2020 18:26

Jazzer was irritating, insisting the scratch card must have been his. I would have thought that as he's supposed to be a good friend of Fallon's, she'd have told him about it, maybe even asked if he'd seen it when he was at hers having the photos taken.

Also, the way he was going on about how much it was, and what he could buy, (didn't know he had a motorbike) has he spent that £5K he got paid by Tom? What did he spend it on, apart from that spider?

I hope Fallon gets it back before he spends it.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 08/10/2020 19:17

Oh dear ...

That pretty much seals it.

Looks as if Jenny and Susan will be leaning into each other for much more support than they're anticipating.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 08/10/2020 19:18

I wrote leaning on each other. Honest!

essexmum777 · 08/10/2020 19:53

I think stress free pregnancy as long as Alice doesn't go back to all day drinking, I can't see them doing a FAS storyline, nothing much ever came of the storyline with Vicky and Bethany Tucker, - would have liked to have seen more develop between Alice and Gavin.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/10/2020 20:10

I am taking the last thing Jennifer said as a sign that the pregnancy absolutely is not going to be less stressful than Lexi being in another country was.

essexmum777 · 08/10/2020 20:36

That was interesting actually, Kate's had three children? so this is Jennifers 5h grandchild, she's an old hand.

BeardieWeirdie · 08/10/2020 20:49

I’m not that keen on my MIL but at least she doesn’t have a radio show.

MikeUniformMike · 08/10/2020 22:52

Emma will be the one to say something about the drinking. If she doesn't I will be writing in to complain again.

Madcats · 09/10/2020 07:05

Just when the storylines were getting good, we now have to wait until Monday night to find out what happens.

I really miss the Friday and Sunday episodes.

Great to hear Jennifer again. First time since lockdown, wasn't it?

I'd forgotten about Alice and Gavin's conversation. I'm wondering if that will come back to bite her - if she loses the baby and he somehow lets slip that she was thinking of having an abortion? I think that could just about put the tin lid on it for Alice and Chris.

PersephonePromotesEquanimity · 09/10/2020 18:57

...

Useless sort of evening ...

Darker · 09/10/2020 19:12

I really miss the Archers on Fridays.

I think Jenny is destined not to have any grandchildren in the way she would like to have them.

MikeUniformMike · 09/10/2020 19:16

But surely if JD had had grandchildren in the way she wanted to have them, she'd have been hovering like a helicopter throughout.
Susan announcing it on the radio though.

Alice, can you hear me? LTB
