Not sure if this is the right topic, but seemed the closest!

Does anyone have any recommendations for good audio books on audible?

It needs to be read well, and interesting. Ideally a novel. Not chick lit.

Things I have enjoyed:
Tidelands - Philippa Gregory
No 1 Ladues Detective Agency - Alexander McCall Smith
Scarlett City Series - Rebecca Glade

Actually this is a great chance for me to put in a shout for some of the excellent readings on Radio 4 or Radio 4 extra. Recently Radio 4 did the latest Hilary Mantel about Thomas Cromwell. If you like Philippa Gregory you might like this:

www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000gbff

It’s read by Anton Lesser so the narration is perfect.

Here’s a link to what’s available now:

www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/category/audiobooks

You can download all the episodes to play sequentially. I think there’s an option to play the next episode automatically but I don’t use it as I tend to listen in bed. Most of them only last for a month like iplayer. And of course they are free (well part of the licence fee).

Thanks :)

Weirdly I have bought a lot of radio 4 content on audible:
Terry Pratchett
Alexander McCall Smith
Cabin Pressure
How does that make you feel

But I hadn't thought to look on sounds for books.

Will give the man tell a go. I tried to read wolf hall but found it impenetrable, maybe better as an audio

Check out the Kingsbridge Trilogy by Ken Follett. It's a superb series and the narrator they chose for the Audible version has the most wonderful voice

It is much better as an audio I thought. I couldn't get through Wolf Hall either but enjoyed the TV adaptation. Agree with you about the narration. I have made some expensive mistakes by not listening to a sample beforehand Blush

Thanks @Madvixen I've read the pillars of the earth and really enjoyed it, didn't realise it was a series

@TakeMeToYourLiar there's three at the moment but he's releasing a new one later on in the year - I am so excited 😂

There's also another trilogy of his on Audible, it's The Century Trilogy and it is also fantastic. Again, it's the same narrator (I love his voice) and I think it's about 70 hours of listening over the three books

Amazing, once DS goes to bed I will give a sample a listen

But worried the second one has a plague theme given the current environment, so might skip forward to the third Blush

You can return anything you don’t like, @nettie434, for exchange or refund. For any reason.

Rivers of London series - fab stories and read by an RSC actor with the most gorgeous voice

TakeMeToYourLiar · 18/04/2020 20:05

Ooh rivers of London interesting one, I read the first one, but couldn't get in to the second one.

I'm normally an avid reader, but with DS a lot at the moment so listening to audiobooks while playing instead.

Unfortunately Sparklinglime I buy them from itunes. I should really switch to audible.
