@theThreeofWeevils, it's the sort of thing that happens IRL.
I know of a single mum with a disabled child. The mother is in her 80s and the disabled child is late 50s, and is not able to live independently.
What will happen when the mother dies or becomes infirm?

ILoveShula · 11/03/2021 12:59

Regardless of my thoughts IRL, I thought that Mike and Vicky should not have had Bethany. Mike was depressed.

theThreeofWeevils · 11/03/2021 13:11

I'm well aware that IRL siblings can end up as carers one the parents die or become too infirm, @ILoveShula. It is not something they necessarily accept gladly.
In Roy's case, it would not even be a full sibling he would be saddled with. And it would be as a result of a foolish and selfish decision of Vicky's, over which he had no influence. Why should he be responsible?

NB: I don't like Roy.

ILoveShula · 11/03/2021 13:47

@theThreeofWeevils, in the case I described, there are no siblings, but the mother has siblings, all elderly.

Indeed, why should Roy be 'saddled with' his half-sibling.

I remember when my grandparent went into a nursing home, people were quite vocal about their disgust that my parents weren't doing the caring, yet the comments were from people who let their younger siblings care for their own elderly parents. Similarly, a relative is now in a nursing homewith Alzheimers and people are finding fault with his wife for not doing the caring herself - she is in her 80s ffs.

Madcats · 11/03/2021 15:07

There is a young lady with Down's Syndrome who has been packing bags and generally helping out in our local Waitrose for years. She is such a happy, friendly soul. Bethany could have a role at the tearooms or village shop, I am sure.

I am friends with the local councillor in charge of "money" round here. Most of our council tax is spent on supporting the elderly, but an increasing sum goes to pay for adults with learning difficulties. Some of these adults are able to live reasonably independent lives in "supported housing" schemes assisted by staff.

I've had a nose at the cast lists in the Ambridge Reporter; Youssef Kerkour (Dr) is back in the credits in a fortnight's time.

To think that this time last year we were worried the SWs were going to dead Lynda - what a year!

ILoveShula · 11/03/2021 19:12

@Madcats, that is the sort of representation they could have done.

Not sure how to word this and I have no intention of offending anyone, but I sort of quite like seeing DS individuals out and about. It doesn't happen often, but once I saw a group of them with presumably carers and they looked like they were enjoying the outing. There used to be a little girl living down the street and she was a sweetie. I sometimes see a young man shopping with a relative.
It's nice to see them living a happy life.

MollyButton · 12/03/2021 12:14

One of my children has a pretty much "hidden disability" they may be able to live fully independently as an adult - but we can't be sure. Their siblings won't be too burdened but we do hope they will "be around" for them. To be honest they are quite happy with that (they are adults) and we didn't know before or even quite a while after birth.

Roy being who he is, I think he'd want to be there for Bethany if she needed him.

Getting back to the spoilers and filling the first line so it doesn't give anything away when people are scrolling past:

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 15th - 18th March 2021
Eddie is making no secret of his fury following Lynda’s decision about the Mystery Plays and vows revenge. But a rash decision causes huge consternation, with even members of his own family taking umbrage. So, will Eddie back down or continue to pursue his grievance?
Ben has high expectations for his birthday, but when Leonard arrives with his gift, will Ben be left disappointed? We also get Alice struggling to come to terms with recent events, but there’s no saying that support will come before she’s overwhelmed. And Jazzer continues to brag about his heroics - all of which leads to a heart-to-heart with another village resident.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 15th - 18th March 2021
Discontent seethes in the village. Ben has what many a therapist would describe as a ‘frozen need’. This means that whatever Ben gets, it’s never enough. You will know someone’s with a frozen need - these types are all over the place. Last year,Ben got a set of wheels off Grandma Jill and her paramour for his birthday. Will this year’s offering live up to his expectations? Make a wild guess.
Eddie has his own gripes, and vows to take revenge over Lynda’s decision about the Miracle Plays, while Jazzer gets a bit of a talking-to from another Ambridger about his bragging, and Susan finds herself caught between a rock and a hard place.
All these niggles and gripes, though, are nothing compared to Alice’s struggles.

Looks to me as if Tracy tells Jazzer to shut up and stop thinking it was him had the baby.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 13/03/2021 17:33

Many thanks, Asking! Whoever predicted a mass walkout of Grundys from the Mysteries seems to have been on the money. Too much to hope, I suppose, that Lynda and Kirsty then say to each other 'D'you know what, let's just jack it in'.

OP posts:
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 13/03/2021 18:09

I fear that as is usual, Clarrie will tell him he's being unreasonable, and Mia (who won't want to lose her central rôle in the plays) will also have a go at him about it, and he will be Shunned by his family.

MollyButton · 13/03/2021 22:00

I think Eddie is angry and accepts arole at Darrington - but Clarrie tells him not to be an idiot/village loyalty comes first.

ppeatfruit · 14/03/2021 14:00

Iam feeling bored with the Mysteries but after seeing a repeat of Life on a Medieval Monastery Farm, The Mysteries was one of the big occasions of the year for Easter then. I'm feeling more tolerant now Grin though the secrecy is daft.

Madcats · 15/03/2021 09:49

For a split second I wondered "who is Leonard?". He hasn't had a part for ages - hopefully that means he is fit and well and jabbed.

Over 50's are all getting vaccinated here this week, so I am wondering whether it is too soon to hope that the SWs are now writing, or at least planning, Friday and Sunday episodes.

None of Ambridge has given anything up for Lent this year; I think they should give up all talk of Mystery Plays!

ILoveShula · 15/03/2021 15:03

Thanks for the spoilers Asking. We seem to be on page 40 with 990 posts.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 15/03/2021 15:06

Yes, don't worry, I have my eye on this thread. I'm expecting it to be full by the weekend, unless something astounding happens.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 15/03/2021 15:35

Thanks, Gasp0de.

ppeatfruit · 16/03/2021 08:41

Oh and thanks Asking for your ministering to this thread Grin

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 16/03/2021 13:47

I am a selfish person: if I stop enjoying it I'll say that I can't give spoilers any more and go away, and likewise if my health gives out and I have to spend time away from the computer for whatever reason I'll try to give warning before I vanish. But unless either of those happens, I am going to be looking for spoilers for my own benefit so it does me no harm to share what I gather, and if it makes others happy it's a bonus.
