Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/12/2020 09:56

Yes, Kirsty sprung it on Helen that she and Philip had decided to go to the registry office and just have a quick basic ceremony, with Gavin and a random stranger as witnesses, but then she decided she wanted Helen to be the other witness. While they were waiting for the registrar, Helen got chatting to Gavin and the subject of Rob came up. Helen talked about how controlling he was and how one of the things he did was always make her feel she was in the wrong. Gavin was audibly brought up short. Unfortunately the ceremony went ahead and so they are now husband and wife. Poor Kirsty!

Thanks Gasp. Well, I'm clinically vulnerable so haven't been able to do any of the stuff I'd planned - it's mostly been Mumsnet, Archers and box sets so far. Hey ho, won't last forever (will it?) Xmas Grin
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 11/12/2020 11:58

That's a bummer. It won't last forever, and presumably you're fairly high up the list for the vaccine? I'm hoping my parents will get theirs fairly soon as they're in their late 80s and my Dad has COPD, but there are logistical challenges around getting it to their island and assembling all the priority jabbees (half the island, I'd guess), so who knows.

Reminds me that TA has made no mention of the vaccine. Unrealistic but not surprising!

Peggy will be eligible for first tranche, and so will Jill and Christine. Also Lewis, I think; he must be over eighty by now. Who else? Um...

Radio Times Ambridge Diary 14th - 17th December 2020
The whole Grundy turkey enterprise is threatened with ruin - and the problem lies with Eddie's lack of skill at mental arithmetic. With Oliver now offering help to get the turkeys dressed, can he and Eddie come up with a solution, or are some families destined to be left disappointed this Christmas?
Philip and Kirsty are still prepping for their big move to Wales, but for Philip this means tying up some unpleasant loose ends. The big question, though, is whether Gavin will hold his nerve in the face of mounting pressure.
And as unexpected news turns their lives upside down, Tracy and Roman are set to face a difficult decision.

Well well. All three horses speak. I hope this indicates a rebellion.

Thank you AQATT.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 12/12/2020 18:12

sigh...

One day I'll post the whole lot all at once.

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 14th - 17th December 2020
The Grundy Christmas turkey endeavour always turns out to be a fiasco, and that tradition is kept up this year. Eddie, finding himself short handed, press-gangs Oliver to help him with the plucking task. It’s a good job he does, as Oliver notices that Eddie’s arithmetic is not what it might be, and that Eddie’s error could lead to big Christmas disappointment for some families.
Susan bids farewell to her Radio Borsetshire listeners, while Philip and Kirsty prepare to say farewell to Ambridge - unless Gavin cracks or the Borsetshire police have other plans. Philip, of course, has a few loose ends to tie up before he heads for the Welsh hills.
Meanwhile, Roman and Tracy get some unexpected news that turns their plans upside down.

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 12/12/2020 18:54

Thanks AQATT

Madcats · 13/12/2020 09:21

The "magic law fairy" has been working fast with the property matters! Especially if Philip is going to have a mortgage on a wreck.

Just popping on to say that I will be cross if there is no mention of bird flu this week.

It is good timing for the turkey/goose farmers, but the flocks have to stay indoors from Monday.

MikeUniformMike · 13/12/2020 11:26

It will be the money from the sales of the 'horses'.

The Archers' modern slavery story has more surprises in store for 2021.

goldenharvest · 16/12/2020 14:21

Not listened for a long time due to work pressures. Last time I listened Kirsty's boyfriend was revealed as a lying, dangerous man. Now I'm listening and she has gone ahead and married him. He was putting all the blame on his worker last time I listened.

Can someone just explain what happened that I missed and what it all has to do with modern slavery. V confused

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 16/12/2020 14:36

Hello, @goldenharvest. Philip is a builder. Over the last few years he's got various building jobs in Ambridge and it's been mentioned in passing that his prices are very low.

Back in the spring, one of his workers, Blake, was left on his own to do a job that Philip's son Gavin should have been supervising. Blake managed to blow up the Grey Gables kitchen and was badly injured. Lynda's injuries were much more serious. Freddie Pargetter saved her and Blake. That was way back in the spring.

In the aftermath we learned (but Kirsty hasn't, and neither has anyone else in Ambridge) that Blake and his colleagues, Jordan and Kenzie, are three young lads who were living on the streets. Philip told them he'd train them up as builders and in return he'd give them a flat to live in and pay for all their food. I'm not sure if he's giving them no wages or just very low wages, way below minimum wage. He's certainly not bothering much about health and safety or proper training.

Kirsty realised something was wrong a few weeks ago but Philip fobbed her off by pretending that Gavin has a gambling problem. Kirsty accepted this. Gavin meanwhile has become more and more troubled by the whole set up and particularly by his Dad's plan to sell the 'horses' (slaves) on to a gangmaster who will find them a new owner, probably a lot worse than Philip.

We're all waiting for Gavin to crack and Kirsty, the unluckiest woman in Borsetshire, to have her life ruined all over again. Sad

Merry Christmas!
