Kirsty has always been good at picking up rubbish in Ambridge - Tom and Philip spring to mind.

Rubbish is too good a word.

Thanks AskingQuestionsAllTheTime

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 05/12/2020 17:01

Thanks, Asking! Looks like a good week in prospect.

Yes thanks Asking . IMO Tom is not in the same league as Philip. He was in an emotional turmoil about his brother's death and being very thoughtless and selfish towards Kirstie.

He's not an effing slave owner.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/12/2020 11:09

Tom was only in an emotional turmoil about his brother's death after the advent of Sean O'Connor as editor, when the idea (like Jill's fanatical hatred of Grace) was invented. Before that melodrama-artist and rampant misogynist took the reins, Tom had given no particular thought to his brother for fifteen years or so.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/12/2020 13:16

Incidentally, someone else has pointed out that "despoil" also doesn't mean what the Mail apparently thinks it does. Sigh.

Or at least, it seems vanishingly unlikely that the discarded face-masks strip anyone of possessions, rob, plunder or pillage.

MollyButton · 06/12/2020 14:06

Actually this talk of Tom has reminded me one reason why I didn't like Philip from very early on. The conversation he had with Tom in the Bull, having a go for Tom's treatment of Kirsty before Philip was even on the scene. It really got my spidery senses tingling - seemed far too possessive.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 06/12/2020 15:11

He spoke to Tom in much the way he later spoke to his horses, really.

ppeatfruit · 07/12/2020 10:03

Yes Asking no doubt it was Mr. O'Connor's idea. But can we blame a fictional character for his misbehaviour?

Who's to blame for this nasty SL about the slaves?

I vaguely remember Philip talking to Tom about the wedding Molly I remember more clearly Shula 'fancying' him when he was doing up the Kennels That reminds me, the hunting season should be in full swing now has Covid banned it?

I think we can blame an inept editor with an agenda for making a character behave and react in out-of-character ways.

Madcats · 07/12/2020 13:50

ppeatfruit that was my recollection of Philip arriving in Ambridge too.

I always assumed he must be fairly old if Shula (62) was so keen to date him. That's why Kirsty (39) choosing to set up (executive) home with him felt so odd. I've always assumed Gavin is probably in his mid-30's.

Blood sports have been banished from Ambridge, but I think the hounds are still going out round here (though there is no fancy Boxing Day meet for the tourists to take photos of).

Is Alice back (or not) tomorrow?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/12/2020 16:24

I think she might be, if she left for a fortnight on Wednesday 25th November. But perhaps not until 9th?

ppeatfruit · 08/12/2020 09:39

Yes Asking an inept editor and or one who's been ordered by the 'powers that be' to make TA more 'dramatic' to attract the EE type\yoof audience.

*Madcats Either that or she was fancying younger men because she was at the beginning of a middleged crisis, we know that, because she went on to divorce Alastair (see above about the editor) .

Madcats · 08/12/2020 16:36

Is it possible for me to "spoil" a spoliers thread by observing that Alice isn't back in the cast list for the rest of the month.

Something is not going to go well this week. Either that or the Editorial Team/posters on the Ambridge Reporter are playing mind games.

PoulePouletteEternellement · 08/12/2020 16:47

Dunno about Alice, Madcats - but I'm willing to bet my Christmas pudding that sometime between 23rd and 29th December (that is, after Roman has legged it) Tracy and Jazzer will be snogging. And then pretending to themselves and anyone else that "nuffink 'appened".

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 08/12/2020 18:53

Oooooooooooooooooh. @Madcats, well spotted! My only quibble is that the RT/BBC have got things wrong before. It may be a mistake in the cast lists.

OP posts:
AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/12/2020 19:57

It may be a deliberate ploy to keep us guessing. They've done that before: they didn't put Tom in the cast-list for the week he came back from Canada, I think, and there have been other names I have had to add after the event.

ppeatfruit · 10/12/2020 09:16

There's a book out called The Archers Ambridge at War by Catherine Miller. (reviewed in Private Eye). It is unkindly criticised of course, I haven't read it; but it sounds quite interesting about Dan and Doris through WW2. !!

PoulePouletteEternellement · 10/12/2020 09:26

Yes, I seem to remember reading it about it somewhere else, maybe the BBC TA site. But I don't think I can make that particular leap of the imagination ...

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/12/2020 10:51

She knows nothing about TA, by her own admission, and seems to think that some geezer called Alex Pargetter existed and was a rake in Ambridge.

It also doesn't accord with the books about the period written in the eighties by people who actually did work on the programme.

MikeUniformMike · 10/12/2020 19:20

Who the feck is Alec Pargetter?

Read the review in the supermarket.

OhLittleBoreOfWhabylon · 10/12/2020 20:18

Wasn't someone named Layla promised to us in the cast list this week?

Did she show up? If so, I didn't notice.

CaptainMyCaptain · 10/12/2020 20:34

Was she the midwife on the phone?
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/12/2020 20:38

Registrar?

OP posts:
Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 10/12/2020 20:40

Must have been the Registrar, as the midwife is Lauren.

OP posts:
CaptainMyCaptain · 10/12/2020 20:43

Was she introduced by name? If not they should have just listed her as Registrar to avoid confusion. Its not a big enough part to need a name. The same applies if it had been the midwife.
