No, sorry, I am wrong and she co-wrote last week; but there is no evidence that Katie Hims rather than Nick Warburton wrote Freddie's letter, is there.

MikeUniformMike · 06/07/2020 17:03

I'm still listening but am not enjoying it, although it was better as an omnibus. I haven't warmed to Tracey. Freddie is adorable though.

ppeatfruit · 07/07/2020 15:34

DEBBIE !!!! Adam's a cold fish about his stepfather Roger. I was wondering if he ever knew his biological dad.

MikeUniformMike · 07/07/2020 17:16

He didn't AFAIK.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 07/07/2020 20:46

Adam met Paddy Redmond in 1981, and Paddy knew (having been told a couple of days earlier) that Adam was his son, but at that point Adam did not know that Paddy was his father.

He did find out later, but I don't think he ever met Paddy again.

MikeUniformMike · 07/07/2020 20:51

I knew you'd know, Asking.

ppeatfruit · 08/07/2020 09:29

Yes so did I Mike Grin thanks Asking . So Roger was his 'proper' dad , was there a bitter divorce?

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/07/2020 10:58

When they had been married for about four years Roger started to spend longer and longer on "business trips" and after a bit Jennifer moved with Adam and Debbie into Wynford Farm where Christine and Paul Johnston lived. After a year or so of her being there, Roger simply left, and eventually Jennifer sued for divorce because he was living in London with his to-be-next wife.

So Jennifer and Roger were married from September 1968 until January 1976, and living in the same house for perhaps as much as six years of that. Roger came into Adam's life when Adam was just over a year old and had left it again by the time Adam was six or just seven, so I really don't think Adam ever knew him all that well, and Debbie even less. Adam's only real father has been Brian, who was certainly a constant figure in his life from when he was nine.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/07/2020 11:16

(Jennifer moved in with Paul and Christine shortly after Christmas 1973; she and Christine had both been more-or-less abandoned by their husbands by that time, but it was the first Christmas that Roger spent elsewhere, which was rather the last straw for her.)

MikeUniformMike · 08/07/2020 11:22

What would we do without you Asking. You're an Archers Encyclopaedia.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/07/2020 11:36

Erm, not really. I own one! (compiled by Joanna Toye and Adrian Flynn, BBC Worldwide Ltd 2001). I have most of the history of the characters who are still around in memory, and reference books to check my memory against along with the Joanna Toye books which were written from the old scripts, and Hesky's dates-list, and so forth. Because I know roughly where to look, I can find the information fairly easily. And why not, if it means other people don't have to hunt around? I can't work and I am not much use for many things, but this is one that I can do.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/07/2020 12:38

It's hugely appreciated Asking Flowers

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 08/07/2020 15:45

I'm really glad you like it. It sometimes feels like being know-it-all, but honestly it's just having the books and the time to look things up in them.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/07/2020 18:14

Ohhhhh nooooooo!! It's lovely to have our own archivist! If TA had any sense they'd offer you the job.

nettie434 · 09/07/2020 04:25

Another one who loves all your insights Asking Flowers. It is a great privilege to have our very own archivist and human vade mecum.

I am listening very rarely at the moment but enjoyed hearing Debbie and Brian yesterday. Adam always sounds wooden but at least he sounded the same as usual.

ppeatfruit · 09/07/2020 09:53

My goodness thank you so much Asking I was going to say the same Bore about TA archives people giving her a job !! It's lovely to have someone who has all the details. I did wonder when I asked the question about Adam's childhood, whether you'd know

It's not surprising that he's very lukewarm about Mr Macey .

MikeUniformMike · 10/07/2020 20:17

You are too modest Asking.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 10/07/2020 21:14

More today:

Daily Mail Weekend Magazine Archers Update 13th-16th July
Few of us have missed the terrible screech of Eccles the peacock over the past few months. This mysterious bird, which made fleeting appearances over the years, finally came to a bad end after a run in with a car. Kenton was behind the wheel, and was nowhere near as sorry as he should have been. Now, it seems - to Kenton’s and our dismay - that Jolene is considering a replacement banshee to fill the village with its fearsome shrieks.
Another unpleasant threat to the tranquillity of Ambridge life is the chaos caused by fly-tippers - but David is on the case and, after some snooping around, has a pretty good idea who the culprit is.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth, attempting to move her life on, gets encouragement from Jolene.

=======================

I suppose Elizabeth might give Jolene the peacock we heard recently at Lower Loxley Hall. A sort of very back-handed thanks for advice from Jolene. (I had an aunt who had a pair of peacocks given to her. She was not grateful. Later, she expressed a strong opposition to fox-hunting!)

MikeUniformMike · 12/07/2020 18:45

Did the fox eat the peacocks?

DuineArBith · 13/07/2020 09:52

Keri Davies has answered a tweet about when they are getting back to normal recording by saying it won't be happening in the near future but that they are "heading in that direction". I'm guessing that, given the lead-in time, we're at least six weeks away.
