Archers Thank you, @PseudoBadger, for kicking off this long, long series of Archers threads.

Archers All views on The Archers welcome here! New blood welcomed. We don't all agree on all points and most of us are posting tongue in cheek a lot of the time, so don't worry about revealing that you'd like to employ Philip Moss & Son to fix your soil pipe, or other unusual views. Grin

Archers Spoilers: not on this thread, please. We don't wait for the omnibus to discuss the weeknight episodes, but we do try our best to avoid cross-contamination from www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3439443-keep-it-to-yourself-the-archers-spoilers-thread-4, where spoilers are positively welcomed! (New thread likely to be replacing that one very soon, in the current circumstances.)

Archers For newer listeners, lurkers or those who just have no idea what we're talking about, @DadDadDad has created this useful thread: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/radio_addicts/3557323-For-Archers-fans-a-guide-to-acronyms-on-the-long-running-discussion-threads-and-any-other-meta-thread-questions-you-may-have - BOOP point for him! (See thread for explanation.)

Thanks to @SurpriseSparDay for the thread title idea, which I tweaked, and @springydaff for the 💥 emoticon, which I hope is in the title! (Can't preview the title). Welcome, lurkers and lapsed listeners, drawn out of the shadows by the current crisis in Ambridge. In the OP of the last thread I said I didn't think we'd get to Easter on that thread. We certainly didn't!

I am very worried indeed about Lynda and concerned about Oliver too. Don't care about Gavin unless it means Kirsty is cheated out of yet another wedding. Freddie's redemption is now assured, though, surely? Roll on the return of the Lower Loxley crew.

OP posts:

I think Roy has a brain bleed going on. He’s going to have a crisis, Lynda will make a slow recovery.

TeenPlusTwenties · 18/03/2020 20:25

Because of Ben's exams.

(I feel so sorry for the y11s & y13s. My DD is y10 it's going to be hard enough for her.)

IrisAtwood · 18/03/2020 21:03

Roy definitely has a slow brain haemorrhage happening. He is also becoming more irritable and emotional. Classic signs of brain injury.

MollyButton · 18/03/2020 21:12

The staff room obviously has two doors. One I imagine next to the reception desk, which was blocked by the explosion. And the one to the kitchen.

And don't anyone shut up on my behalf, but I just had to be pedantic for once.

I am worried about Roy.

IrisAtwood · 18/03/2020 21:13

I would much prefer Ambridge to be Corona Virus free. It’s like a little oasis at the moment, even with the GG explosion, Lynda, Blake and Roy.
Have to say Freddie has really become a fantastic character and has brought tears to my eyes several times recently.

Motoko · 18/03/2020 21:17

I'm glad Freddie has matured. He was a whiney little s**t before. 'Scuse my language.

WeWantSweet · 18/03/2020 21:32

Respect to the actor who plays Freddie and to the sound effect people, from me.

ArgumentativeAardvaark · 18/03/2020 23:25

the dreaded deading generally happened in every episode.

Re The Goons, never listened to it myself but it sounds like it might have been the inspiration for the regular “Oh my God they killed Kenny” in South Park!

CaptainMyCaptain · 19/03/2020 09:04

So what colour is Ben's car? I'm seeing fluorescent lime green.

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2020 09:10

I see a bright yellowy-brown. The colour of a calf's diarrhoea.

EBearhug · 19/03/2020 09:13

I thought calf scour, too.

Madcats · 19/03/2020 09:24

I'd like Ben's car to be acknowledged as being yellow (my family are extremely competitive at playing "yellow car" and I would insist that 'the sound of Ben's car must count').

Gill was whittering on about Ben's Uni offers a few weeks ago - so he'll definitely be one of the kids affected by the no-exams. Ruari must be miffed (he is lower 6th - do they still call it that).

I hope the village give the Gills short shrift if they plan to decamp from London this weekend, bringing the virus with them!

Chemenger · 19/03/2020 09:26

We used to have a bright yellow car. I loved it, so easy to find in car parks. I also had a metallic purple one which was often described as pink by men.

MikeUniformMike · 19/03/2020 09:59

Yellow car!

TherapistInATabard · 19/03/2020 10:40

Very late to the party as have been listening intermittently and catching up. Yes I think Lynda will recover and Roy will have an embolism or something. He’s been getting quite a bit of airtime and is a pretty good egg these days. I’m sure someone referred to him having concussion after the accident and his memory lapses seem to be worsening. If that is what happens they’ve done it very well, I think.

EBearhug · 19/03/2020 10:49

My first car was yellow, but quite a nice pale yellow. You'd be amazed how many other yellow cars suddenly appeared to be out on the roads, and how many there will be in carparks. And how similar white cars look under sodium streetlights (especially if you get called into work at 4am and you aren't quite with it yet.)

Lexilooo · 19/03/2020 12:36

I think Roy is going to be used as public information on tbi and especially late presentation.

Emma was in the staffroom which is where Freddie was. Lynda opened the door between the staffroom and the kitchen causing the explosion.

Tracey and Emma left the staffroom and Lynda asked Tracey to man reception, Tracey refused, Lynda called Ginny over instead and took Freddie into the Staffroom.

Motoko · 19/03/2020 12:57

Only Lynda knew Freddie had gone back in, as Emma and Tracy saw him leave, so didn't know he had gone back in the staffroom.

MereDintofPandiculation · 19/03/2020 13:13

Yellow or "calf's diarrhoea". It won't be pink because Jill or Leaoner would say we can't give a pink car to a young lad". At least it wasn't a HondaJazz!

TheSparklyPussycat · 19/03/2020 14:44

DD's ex fella drove a florescent green car. Everyone 's first reaction was to laugh!

JudyCoolibar · 19/03/2020 14:56

Given that Roy has already blurted out once by mistake that the party is a wedding party, I suspect the plotline was due to be that he would do it again somewhere very public. However, the reality is that the party will have to be cancelled so I assume a quick rewrite has happened.

AskingQuestionsAllTheTime · 19/03/2020 15:50

They may have decided not to have cv19 in Ambridge and just carry on as usual. They do seem to be making an effort to do more recording.

Chemenger · 19/03/2020 15:51

I really hope they do decide not to have coronavirus. It would be nice to have an oasis away from real life.

Madcats · 19/03/2020 16:59

@EBearhug, streetlights do interfere with colour don't they. DD and I tend to walk around our town rather than drive - often at night - so we do have many conversations as to whether cars are 'yellow'. If the motorist is waiting at a junction they must wonder what we are staring at.

Did anybody notice how quick Roy was to damn the people on the new estate (so that is Helen, Kirstie and now Roy being rude about incomers)? It's all turning a bit Royston Vasey!

Poor Kirsty. Helen seems to have disowned her, Philip is about to be stoney-broke and permanently stressed, Gavin has moved in and shows no sign of moving and now her only other friend looks set to be deaded!

EBearhug · 19/03/2020 17:04

Did anybody notice how quick Roy was to damn the people on the new estate (so that is Helen, Kirstie and now Roy being rude about incomers)?

Yes. It could be a symptom of his brain trauma, but don't forget he was part of the racist attack on Usha back in 1995.
